Legia Warsaw's Champions League night turns sour as fans use pepper spray on security guards
Legia Warsaw's return to the Champions League group stages following a 20-year absence was completely overshadowed by crowd trouble inside the Polish club's stadium.
Violence erupted during the first-half of a match the Poles lost 6-0 to Borussia Dortmund. A group of Legia supporters wanting to get at the visitors' section forced their way into a part of the stand kept empty as a means of segregating the two sets of fans.
The balaclava-clad Legia ultras - a minority among a 28,000 crowd in the Polish capital - turned a spray on the security guards charged with restraining them.
The game had started amid a crackling atmosphere. Legia's players emerged to a stadium bouncing on all four sides, and with a bank of supporters behind one goal using fireworks to light up their end.
There was also a banner plastered with the words 'Guess Who's Back?', in reference to the team's extended wait to return to this stage of Europe's elite competition.

Pescara fans accuse police of committing violence during travel for Lazio clash
Apart from the result, yesterday’s Lazio clash was definitely not a good one for Pescara fans. Many of them have accused police of having treated them ‘like beasts’ during their travel to the Olimpico.
Here’s what Nella Grossi, president of women fans club ‘Donne Biancazzurre’ told Rete8 Sport: ‘They [police] exaggerated. We were blocked at Roma’s highway toll booth for 45 minutes and then we were taken around the city. They made us enter the Olimpico after the beginning of the first half. It was shameful.”
“During the return journey they did not allow us to do any stop, which means not using toilets of service stations. In addition to that they also laid their hands on someone of us.”
Another fan of Pescara, Fabio Manzo, added: “Police trampled on our dignity. There were also women, babies and elderly men.”

No arrests after trouble at Wolves' game against Newcastle
Police had to intervene both during and after the game, which Newcastle won 2-0 - but have confirmed there were no arrests, and that nobody was injured.
Home supporters were seen piling towards where the Wolves fans were sat near the end of the match at St James Park.
And outside the ground stewards and police quickly contained any trouble and dispersed Newcastle supporters into the streets.
Inspector Dave Balmer, of Northumbria Police's Football Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We do not tolerate this type of disorder at our football matches and we'll be working to identify those involved.
"Our Football Neighbourhood Policing Team has worked hard to reduce disorder at our football matches in recent years and we have managed to significantly reduce this type of behaviour.
"We regularly visit schools and colleges to talk to young people and remind them that there are a number of serious consequences of getting involved in football disorder.
"That work will continue this season as we know how much football means to the people of the North East. The vast majority of football fans behave impeccably and we want to thank them for their continued support."

'Worst' Feyenoord hooligans await Man Utd fans amid fears of 'serious' clashes - 15/09/2016
Source : http://www.dailystar.co.uk/
MANCHESTER United fans have been warned to prepare for the worst ahead of a potential face-off with some of the hardest thugs in football.
All eyes will be on Feyenoord's hardest Ultras ahead of the two team's Europa League match tonight.
But the bosses of the Dutch club are praying for the two sets of passionate fans to remain civil.
Feyenoord – one of Holland's biggest clubs – has the "worst reputation" for hooliganism in the country, one Dutch football expert told Daily Star Online.
And bosses know one more night of ugly violence involving their fans and the club will be slapped with a £42,000 fine and have to play one game behind closed doors.
UEFA handed Feyenoord with a suspended sentence after fans clashed with Roma supporters last year in Europa League.
The ref had to stop the match twice after objects were thrown on to the pitch.
Feyenoord fans had also rioted in Rome the week before around the city's historic centre smashing up the 400-year-old Barcaccia fountain.
But that was not a one-off because Feyenoord's hardcore fans have terrorised rival supporters in cities for years.
Ramon Spaaij has written four books on Dutch football hooligans and studied fan violence in the country for 15 years.
Speaking to Daily Star Online, he said: "The bigger picture is that English fans are coming to town and they see it as a bit of challenge. You see that a lot when English clubs go overseas.
"Football hooligans love the media coverage as long as they do not have to serve any jail time."
When Manchester United and Feyenoord last met in 1997 in the Champions League the match was marred by shocking spectator violence from both clubs.
Huge fencing to separate supporters was broken down and screaming fans started charging at each other during the match.
There was also trouble outside the stadium before and after kick-off where police had to break clashes between fans in the city centre.
And stones and missiles were pelted at the United team coach after the game.
Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) have reacted angrily at Feyenoord's decision to just give their fans 1,000 less tickets than they would normally receive.
"We don't see why our fans should be affected by the police concerns per home fans' behaviour and choosing to reduce their capacity for the match," a MUST spokesman said.
News of Feyenoord's attempts to stop hooligans running riots comes after Manchester United supporters appeared to clash with City fans after the derby last weekend at Old Trafford.
Mr Spaaij added: "There is a bit of history between the clubs.
"I expect things to be quite similar to 1997.
"The bigger picture is when English fans travel their reputation precedes them.
"Feyenoord fans have the worst reputation in Holland – but that is because of the size of the club.
"When they do mobilise it can get serious if they see an opportunity."
Fans going to the game at Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam will notice netting around the stadium to stop missiles being aimed at players.
And additional stewards have been brought in to frisk fans for any home-made weapons as they come into the ground.
A club spokesman called the changes which will be in place for every Europa League game Feyenoord play "absolutely necessary".
The spokesman added: "The wrongs for which Feyenoord was punished by UEFA will not be tolerated in any way by the club.
"[We] are determined they never happen again. In the interests of the club and its future, nothing can be allowed to go wrong again."
The 1,400 United fans in Rotterdam for the match will hope things do not go wrong either.
The news comes as a Man Utd fan lost his battle with cancer just 45 minutes after his dream of meeting his heroes came true.

Cyprus: Hooligans rampage during futsal game - 15/09/2016
Source : http://in-cyprus.com/
A futsal game in Nicosia was abandoned after just five minutes on Wednesday night after rampaging fans clashed with police.
According to police, the Super Cup game between APOEL and Anorthosis Famagusta at the Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria Arena was called off after only five minutes as fans from APOEL began hurling objects – such as rocks, slabs of concrete and water bottles – at the visiting Anorthosis fans and onto the court.
The rioting began inside the arena and then spilled out onto the neighbouring streets and the main car park of the area. The Anorthosis fans had been sectioned off inside the ground as police battled with APOEL fans.

Thailand: Muangthong United - Port FC - 14/09/2016
Source : http://www.themalaymailonline.com/
Tear gas as Thai hooligans fight at Bangkok derby
Thai police fired tear gas and water cannon to break up a brawl that left several fans injured as a cup game between bitter rivals Muangthong United and Port FC spilled into violence.
Fighting erupted outside the stadium shortly before end of yesterday night’s match, which saw Muangthong advance to the league cup final after winning 3-2 over two legs.
Graphic footage apparently of the incident and shared on social media showed rival fans throwing rocks, bottles and at least one petrol bomb.
A Port fan was kicked by several “ultras” from Muangthong as he lay on the floor.
Video showed him semi-conscious and bleeding from his head, although police later said his condition was not serious.
“It began a few minutes before the game ended, we mobilised 3-400 police and it took around one hour to put an end to the violence,” Yosarin Aiempoom, a senior policeman involved in the deployment, told AFP.
“Police fired two tear gas cannisters to separate them, followed by water cannon,” he said, adding five people were injured but none seriously.
The Bangkok teams have a history of beef.
In 2010 Port were fined by the Thai football association after a brawl with Muangthong fans at a cup final game left nine fans injured.
Muangthong, who sit at the top of the Thai Premier League, are a deep-pocketed glamour club who boost a large trophy haul over recent years and a slew of national team stars.
Port are historically one of Thailand’s most successful teams, but suffered relegation into Division 1 last season after losing their last home game to Muangthong.
Thai football is desperately trying boost its brand and clean up its image for violence and dodgy refereeing.
Both clubs could face a fine and a points deduction — a punishment that would dent their respective title charges.

Key arrest in Russian hooliganism probe - 24/09/2016
Source : http://www.newindianexpress.com/
Russian special police on Saturday publicly detained the far-right football fan leader implicated in this summer's Euro 2016 violence in France.
Moscow police said its criminal investigation department hauled in the head of Russia's national supporters association Alexander Shprygin for questioning and searched his home and office.
Police said that Shprygin was being questioned over a mass fight between football fans in central Moscow on January 31 this year. Russian media reported the fight was between fans of CSKA and Spartak Moscow.
Shprygin came to international attention at Euro 2016 as the head of the officially accredited fan organisation after Russian hooligans shocked the world with ultra-violent clashes in the south of France.
France deported Shprygin along with other fans, only for him to sneak in again days later and get deported again.
Three other Russian fans -- two of them members of Shprygin's organisation, were sentenced to jail terms of up to two years over the violence that broke out in Marseille around the Russia-England match on June 11.
On Saturday morning, black-clad Russian special police swooped on Shprygin as he attempted to attend a meeting of the Russian Football Union (RFU) at a Moscow hotel.
Sport Express news site posted witness videos showing a group of half a dozen special police, one wearing a balaclava, pull Shprygin from toilets and lead him away.
Sports minister Vitaly Mutko, who was re-elected to a four-year term as RFU president on Saturday, told journalists the arrest was linked to Euro 2016 violence.
During Euro 2016, Shprygin's links to far right groups came to light, as did footage of him accompanying President Vladimir Putin to visit a fan's grave with other leaders of fan groups.
Russia was initially sympathetic to the fans, with Putin questioning how a few hundred Russian hooligans could have beaten several thousand England fans.
But Mutko later said that by flouting his deportation order from France Shprygin had showed "disrespect" and was "letting down all of Russian football".
The RFU on Saturday voted to expel Shprygin's All-Russian Fan Association, which was created in 2007.
