'Vile' attack on Rangers team bus probed by police after match against Aberdeen

THE poisonous atmosphere that surrounds every match between Aberdeen and Rangers football clubs hit a new nadir yesterday when the Rangers team bus was vandalised.

In a sickening reference to the Ibrox Disaster of 1971 in which 66 Rangers fans lost their lives, vandals scratched "Ibrox 71" on the side of the Park’s of Hamilton coach that was parked at the Ibrox club’s overnight base, the Ardoe House Hotel on south Deeside.

Rangers called the damage “especially vile” and the club quickly called in police, who have confirmed they are investigating the vandalism.

Also scratched on the bus was "Durrant Dived", a reference to the infamous incident in which the former Rangers and Scotland midfielder Ian Durrant was seriously injured after a tackle by Aberdeen’s Neil Simpson in a league match in October, 1988.

Many pinpoint that that tackle and its aftermath – Durrant was out of the game for almost three years and a court case followed – as the start of the ongoing hostility between the fans of the two clubs.

The fact that they had not played in the top flight for so long had seen Rangers surrender their position as chief challengers to five-in-a-row champions Celtic to Aberdeen, further exacerbating the rivalry between the two sets of fans.

There was also trouble inside Pittodrie, where the two clubs had not met for more than four seasons after Rangers lurched into administration and liquidation.

Prior to the match, which Aberdeen won 2-1, Police Scotland had warned both sets of fans not to cause trouble.

They posted a warning on Facebook saying: “Don’t think because you haven’t been caught at the time you’ve got away with it, as retrospective enquiries will also be carried out to identify those responsible for any crimes committed.

“Aberdeen FC has invested in upgrades to CCTV that can zoom into every seat.”

Despite that warning, the opposing fans had to be separated by a line of police and stewards as objects rained back and forth early in the match.

Rangers fans heading north had been greeted with a banner on a bridge over the main road into Aberdeen that read: “You let your club die”.

The references to the Ibrox Disaster and Durrant may prompt football and criminal justice authorities to examine the problems caused by this particular fixture.

When the bus arrived at Pittodrie, black tape had been put across the vandalised areas of the luxury coach, but photographs of the damage had already begun to circulate on the internet.

A Rangers spokesman said: “The club is disgusted and disappointed by this act of vandalism.

“In particular, the reference to the Ibrox Disaster in which 66 people lost their lives is especially vile. This sort of behaviour has no place in civilised society.

“The incident was immediately reported to Police Scotland and we will assist them with their enquiries.”

Asked about what happened after the game, Rangers manager Mark Warburton added: “It’s very sad that the incident should happen and it’s very disappointing.”

An Aberdeen FC spokesman said: “We are particularly disappointed with this act of vandalism.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We have been made aware of reports of vandalism in the Deeside area of Aberdeenshire in the early hours of this morning.

Lyon president left fuming after two fans were seriously injured during clash with police prior to Champions League game with Sevilla

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas was left fuming after Spanish police allegedly used excessive force when they charged the French club's fans ahead of the team's Champions League game at Sevilla on Tuesday.
'Incomprehensible aggression', Aulas was quoted as saying by French sports daily L'Equipe on Wednesday.
A senior member of the supporters' group 'The Bad Gones' said four fans were to appear before a judge on Wednesday.

'It is essential for us that our version (of the events), which will be supported by the numerous pieces of footage, be heard,' Lyon fan Benoit, whose full name was not disclosed, told L'Equipe.
'We were violently charged by the police when we arrived at the stadium, especially by the mounted police,' he added.
'It happened before the OL officials and the UEFA delegates, who were shocked and outraged.'

Two fans were seriously hurt. One sustained a broken collarbone and the other had his skull cracked open.

FC Basel fans bring London roads to standstill ahead of Arsenal clash in the Champions League

Thousands of Swiss football fans brought London roads to a standstill as they marched towards the Emirates Stadium for tonight’s Champions League clash at Arsenal.

FC Basel supporters were provided a police escort as they swarmed busy streets including Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Street and Charing Cross Road en route to north London.

Stunned bystanders said the scenes sparked “chaos” as video as scarf-waving fans chanted before they crammed into Warren Street station onto the Tube.

Others described supporters as “epic” with no reports of trouble as police guided them to the ground.

Legia Warsaw to face Real Madrid behind closed doors - 29/09/2016

Source : http://www.fourfourtwo.com/

UEFA have banned fans from attending Legia Warsaw's home game with Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Legia Warsaw's Champions League game against Real Madrid will be played behind closed doors after UEFA sanctioned the Polish club for the crowd disturbances that marred their meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
Legia were also fined €80,000 by European football's governing body after home fans showered stewards with pepper spray and attempted to break through barriers to reach their Dortmund counterparts during the meeting on September 14.
UEFA also found Legia fans guilty of setting off fireworks, throwing objects and racist behaviour, while the club were reprimanded for insufficient organisation and blocked stairways.
Legia apologised in the immediate aftermath but it has not prevented them from missing out on lucrative gate receipts from the meeting with European champions Madrid on November 2.

Celtic hit with £8,615 fine by UEFA for fans’ Palestine flags - 29/09/2016

Source : http://www.fourfourtwo.com/

UEFA have fined Celtic £8,615 over their fans’ support of Palestine in August's 5-2 victory against Israel's Hapoel Beer Sheva.

The Hoops were found guilty of the charge for having an "illicit banner" by Europe's governing body.

Celtic have now been punished nine times in five seasons by UEFA for their supporters' behaviour, including a fine of around £16,000 two years ago after a Palestine flag was displayed at a Champions League qualifier against KR Reykjavik.

The UEFA rule in question forbids the use of "gestures, words, objects or any other means to transmit any message that is not fit for a sports event, particularly messages that are of a political, ideological, religious, offensive or provocative nature".

Celtic fans have raised more than £172,000 since the UEFA charge as they look to raise money for Palestinian charities in a 'match the fine' campaign. Many of those supporters were critical of UEFA's decision to charge the Scottish champions.

Eight arrests at Ajax-Standard Luik football match

Eight people were arrested at the Ajax-Standard Luik European League match in Amsterdam Arena on Thursday night, reports NU.nl. The police said there was trouble from the start, with rival supporters attacking each other and the Belgian Standard Liege fans throwing bottles, stones and fireworks at officers. Shortly after the match, a fire started in a set of toilets, and fireworks were thrown. Some police will require hearing tests to check for damage from the explosions, and they are investigating who threw the flares. The area under the troublemakers was evacuated for safety reasons.

France : Paris Saint-Germain preparing to allow ultras back into Parc des Prince after six-year absence - 30/09/2016

Source : https://www.thesun.co.uk/

PARIS-SAINT GERMAIN are preparing to let their ultra group return to the Parc des Princes after a six year absence.

Organised fan groups have been banned from the club after a serious riot in 2010 caused the death of one supporter.

But after eight months of consultation between fans, the board and police, it has been agreed that ultras can return once again to the stadium.

A police statement read: “The police headquarters acknowledges the will of Paris Saint-Germain to host the ultras supporters through individual ticket sales.

“In the case of recorded incidents, the police will oppose continued presence of ultras at Parc des Princes.”

PSG’s ultras had a reputation for big tifo displays and crackling atmosphere – but became known for violence during the 2000’s.

But recently influential midfielder and France international Blaise Matuidi stated his desire to see the ultras return as the club look to bring the noise back to the stadium.

Le Parisien report as many as 100-150 ultras could be allowed in to the Auteuil end of the stadium as soon as Saturday for the Ligue 1 clash at home to Bordeaux.

Violent football thugs sentenced after Champions League match is marred by fighting - 29/09/2016

Source : http://www.express.co.uk/

FOUR Lyon fans have been handed suspended prison sentences and fined after fans attacked police officers before a Champions League clash between Lyon and Sevilla.

The four thugs – who have not been named – were arrested after at least 20 people were injured during the intense brawl prior to the game in the southern Spanish city on Tuesday.

Around 300 Lyon fans were have said to have travelled to watch their side in the group H match, which the home side, Sevilla, won 1-0.

The four supporters were arrested and one allegedly broke a policeman’s smartphone during the brawl which was captured by a bystander on a balcony overlooking the shocking scenes.

After facing a quick trial in the city’s Instruction Court 9, the Lyon supporters were each handed a four-month suspended sentence for assault on a police officer.

They were also fined €100 (£86) and the one who was said to responsible for smashing the police officer’s phone was also given an extra fine of €180 (£155).

According to the latest reports, the four supporters have not yet paid the fines but have promised to do so soon.

Lyon’s owner and chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, 67, was reportedly outraged after reports emerged of two other Lyon fans being serious injured during the pre-match clashes.

One sustained a broken collarbone and the other was said to have had his skull cracked open.

Mr Aulas was quoted in French papers as saying that the police violence was uncalled for and described it as an “incomprehensible aggression”.
