VIOLENT PALESTINIAN PROTEST ENDS FOOTNALL GAME FOR ISRAELI TEAM
In the second half of a match between Maccabi Haifa and Lille Olympique Sporting Club played in Austria, a mob of young Turks turned the playing field into a battlefield. The invasion occurred in the 85th minute of play. The horde kicked, punched, carried flags, and swore at bewildered Israeli players. The current hostilities between the Israeli military and Hamas served as the stated rationale for turning a scheduled football match into an unsanctioned boxing match. The preseason friendly became unfriendly rather suddenly, and startlingly, in the final minutes. Security did not react so quickly to the violence. Several of the athletes accustomed to using their feet employed their hands to good effect in fending off the angry assailants before the authorities restored order. The Daily Mail reports that Maccabi Haifa coach Aleksandar Stanojevic slugged one of the trespassers. The Jerusalem Post’s Allon Sinai reports that the anti-fans waved Palestinian and Turkish flags in non sequitur fashion during the match between teams from Israel and France in Austria. Stadium-goers displayed a Star of David national standard painted over with the words "F--- Israel." Sinai noted that the politicized soccer hooligans waited for Maccabi Haifa to leave the stadium, requiring a delayed departure under protective escort. The game, an afterthought once the killjoys crashed the field, ended prematurely with Lille ahead 2-0.

FC Groningen showdown hailed success despite eight arrests - 09/07/2014
Source : https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk
Eight arrests were made before and after Aberdeen FC’s Europa League game against FC Groningen in Holland.
Last night, Aberdeen police officers described the trip to Groningen as “a very positive experience” despite a few Dons fans who “let themselves down”.
Of the eight arrests made – for offences such as disorder and other minor incidents – it was not known how many were Aberdeen fans.
Senior and football specific officers from the north-east made the journey to the Dutch city for the Europa League clash which was won by the Dons.
Aberdeen fans were targeted on a Groningen street as their procession – led by a pipe band – made their way to the team’s Euroborg stadium on Thursday evening.
However, near the city centre, a group of Dutch football fans met them and one ran forward to throw a bicycle at the musicians.
Dutch police officers had to resolve the situation, said to have involved around 200 FC Groningen supporters.
An Aberdeen FC spokesman described the incidents in Groningen as ‘a minor skirmish’, adding that it had been “an extremely successful trip on and off the pitch”.
He said: “Dutch people tried to attack our fans in the square. As far as we’re aware nobody was injured from an Aberdeen perspective.
“The police from Aberdeen were working with their Dutch colleagues, and Dutch police went about their business.
“Our fans were great in the stadium, every one of the players mentioned how much they played a part.”
Around 1,100 Aberdeen FC fans made their way to the Netherlands for the showdown on Thursday.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson said: “Overall it was a very positive experience in Groningen. As expected the overwhelming majority of the travelling support behaved in an exemplary fashion.
“One or two perhaps let themselves down.
“We are aware that some of the home support would have caused a few challenges and this will be thoroughly investigated by the Dutch police.”
The Dons spokesman added: “There were a few minor skirmishes which you get at every football game, apart from that nothing, an extremely successful trip on and off the pitch.
“It was a pretty quiet one from our perspective. I wasn’t aware of any Aberdeen fans being arrested. “

Dutch police arrest 22 following cup final riot - 28/07/2014
Source : http://au.eurosport.com
Dutch police arrested 22 suspects on Monday in connection with rioting and the throwing of fireworks that halted April's Dutch Cup final between Ajax Amsterdam and PEC Zwolle in Rotterdam.
The suspects, who range in age from 17 and 31, were picked up by police in Amsterdam and Rotterdam after a lengthy investigation into the incidents which twice saw the final halted as Ajax supporters hurled fireworks onto the pitch. "The majority of those who perpetrated the destruction and threw fireworks obscured their faces. Detectives had the daunting task of linking images of them to others in which the defendants were recognisable," said a statement issued by Dutch police (www.politie.nl). "This was a time-consuming job but eventually they managed to capture the images of 40 suspects who now face criminal charges. These were handed over to the police in Amsterdam for identification and, with a few exceptions, they managed to achieve this." Photos of those suspects whose identity is not known to police will be posted on the web on Thursday, they added. Zwolle secured a sensational 5-1 upset triumph over hot favourites Ajax in a drama-filled final in Rotterdam. The game was stopped just after the start for a half hour as fireworks and smoke bombs damaged the pitch and set an advertising board alight. Some 19 people were arrested before kick off for carrying fireworks and insulting behaviour, but it did not stop an avalanche of projectiles being thrown on to the field from the start, causing an immediate delay. The game resumed long enough for Ajax to score, prompting another volley of missiles thrown by their own supporters. The players were taken off by the referee as Ajax coach Frank de Boer went over to the supporters to ask them to behave and club director Edwin van der Sar took to the public address to appeal for reason. "Stop throwing fireworks on the field, it's dangerous," he said in an expletive-ridden address. "If it happens again, the game is abandoned." Within three minutes of the resumption, Zwolle equalised and went onto a famous win for their first major piece of silverware. The two clubs meet again on Sunday at the Amsterdam Arena for the Johan Cruyff Shield, the country's Super Cup between the previous season's champions and cup winners.

(...) Shortly after, a banner “Gaza firm” was deployed. All the young men around it were wearing “K-Soce team” T-shirts for a group of Parisian hooligans known for its radicalism. Some were performing “quenelles” – a part-anti-Semitic, part-obscene hand gesture – and Nazi salutes. The rest of the group was yelling “Palestine, Palestine, Palestine” and clapping in their hands.

Aberdeen v Real Sociedad: Police Scotland warn Dons fans to stay out of trouble ahead of Thursday's clash - 29/07/2014
Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk
ABERDEEN fans were among some of the arrests made after violence flared between them and Dutch fans as the team travelled for their match against Groningen.
ABERDEEN FC fans are being urged to be on their best behaviour as they travel to Spain for their next Europa League qualifier this week.
The Dons will clash with Real Sociedad in San Sebastián on Thursday as they bid to reach the competition's group stage.
Last week part of The Red Army was attacked by Dutch thugs as the team travelled to face Groningen.
One mindless Dutch hooligan even threw a bike at a piper as a group of around 75 Groningen fans charged at Aberdeen supporters.
Police Scotland confirmed some Dons fans were amongst the eight arrests made on the night by Dutch police.
Superintendent Innes Walker, who is liaising with police in Spain, said: "Police Scotland, as in previous rounds, will be working with Aberdeen Football Club with the aim of ensuring that fixtures are safe and enjoyable for home and travelling fans.
"Officers will be in attendance to support the Spanish Police on Thursday and assist them in policing the fixture.
"Aberdeen fans have an excellent reputation in Europe but it is incumbent upon me to remind anyone who may become involved in disorder that it is likely that this will be dealt with robustly by the local law enforcement agency.
"The last fixtures both home and away have overall been very successful and enjoyable events for all involved and we want that to continue.
"We do anticipate that inappropriate behaviour will be kept to a minimum and hope that it will be a good experience for all involved."

England : Hooligan has jail sentence for violence at Bristol derby between City and Rovers cut on appeal - 29/07/2014
Source : http://www.bristolpost.co.uk
THE only two hooligans jailed after violence at last year’s Bristol derby match at Ashton Gate have appealed against their sentences.
James Bagnall, of Shickle Grove, Bath, had his sentence cut from two-and-a-half years to two years.
But Shaun Coles, of Canberra Grove, Filton, failed in his attempt to get his 20-month sentence cut.
The pair were among 10 people sentenced over violence which erupted between rival fans before, during and after the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round tie at Ashton Gate last September. The other defendants received non-custodial sentences.
Police and fans were attacked, improvised missiles were thrown and the pitch invaded during the trouble.
Bagnall, 26, admitted violent disorder and affray, while 22-year-old Coles admitted violent disorder.
A previous six-month suspended sentence imposed on Coles was also activated, leaving him facing a total 26-month sentence.
Judge John Bevan QC, sitting at London's Appeal Court today with Lord Justice Treacy and Mrs Justice Simler, said the violence lasted five hours and was described by Avon and Somerset Police as “the worst they had had to deal with in recent years”.
Trouble flared in pubs close by the ground before the match but then spilled over into the game itself, as marauding fans tried to “infiltrate” each other's areas of the stands and threw missiles, including coins and chairs.
Coles was guilty of “kicking and punching a man on the ground”, said Judge Bevan, and later ripped off his shirt as he confronted a line of police officers and yanked at their shields.
He also invaded the pitch but was thrown out of the ground by stewards, the court heard.
Bagnall's behaviour was “worse”, said the judge, involving kicking a female police officer before the game, storming through a gate during the match, striking police shields and ripping a chair off its stand which he then hurled at opposing fans.
Both Coles and Bagnall challenged their sentences on the grounds that they were too harsh - particularly in light of the suspended terms imposed on others involved.
But Judge Bevan said the pair’s actions had stood out from the rest. Dismissing Coles’ challenge, he said that he had been “at the forefront” during an attack on police ranks.
But the judge reduce Bagnall’s sentence to two years, ruling that despite his "disgraceful" behaviour, the original sentence was too long.
Bagnall had written a “letter of apology” to the police officer he attacked, the court heard.
