| UK: Police warn potential football troublemakers - 31/03/2009
Source : Watford Observer
Police have warned football fans against causing trouble in Watford town centre on Sunday.
It is feared a minority of Luton Town supporters will travel to Watford after their team’s appearance at a Wembley final looking for trouble.
We understand a hardcore minority of Watford and Luton supporters – bitter rivals – have agreed to meet in the town to settle their differences after the game.
Hertfordshire Police, however, said it would not tolerate any disorder and planned to be vigilant.
Superintendent Steve Hughes, from Watford Police Station, said: “We are fully aware of potential problems which could arise from Luton Town Supporters who will be travelling through the town en- route to Wembley and again on their return journey this weekend.
"Additional resources and an increased police presence will be present throughout the weekend to ensure that no trouble occurs.
"Our message is clear, violence and disorder will not be tolerated on the streets of Watford, if you cause trouble you will be arrested and dealt with accordingly.”

| Marine FC - FC United of Manchester - 31/03/2009
Source : Crosby Herald
Five arrests made at Marine FC’s game against FC United
FIVE people were arrested at Marine FC’s match against FC United of Manchester at the weekend.
Police made the alcohol-related arrests – before and during the game – outside the Arriva stadium on College Road.
The club closed its bar at 2.30pm and the nearby Edinburgh pub was closed at 4pm following police advice, and reopened at 5.45pm.
Several shops closed early with one closing at 1.30pm and one shopkeeper said: “I have never seen anything like it on College Road with so many police.”
Another said: “It’s overkill, but I’ll be closing early just in case anything happens.”
One supporter was ejected from the stadium at half-time and earlier in the day police arrested five further people at Southport train station, which included FC United fans travelling in from Manchester.
Arrests were made for cannabis possession, breaking court bail conditions and for drunk and disorderly.
Away fans travelling by train were advised to avoid entering Liverpool city centre for safety reasons and to head toward Southport where they could use the Northern Line route to get to Crosby.
FC United were formed in 2005 by Manchester United fans following the club's takeover by Michael Glazer.
Marine FC chairman Paul Leary said: “I was very pleased with all the hard work and efforts put into the game.
“I would compliment the stewards and the police. They did a very good job.”
The club is set to receive a policing costs bill after the stadium saw the biggest police operation in years with 21 officers, three sergeants, mounted police, search dogs, and the force helicopter deployed.
It was the first time the stadium segregated supporters and searched people going into the ground.
An FA spokesman said: “As part of the FA’s advisory, we had an FA official at Marine on Saturday overseeing matters.
“The stadium came through the inspection. We had an official at the stadium because Marine were next on the list.”
Police would not confirm where those arrested came from. Marine were beaten 3-2 by FC United.

| Serbian III Division "East": FC Timok (Zajechar) - FC Radnichki (Nish) - 21/03/2009
Source : kurir-info.rs (thanks to the sender)
The fight occurred half an hour before the kick-off. Neither of 2 sides didn't expect to bump upon each other. Otrovi attacked Meraklije at the cross-road near the stadium and due to the confusing police action Meraklije easily managed to breach the police line and response. The fight lasted for about 7-8 minutes and all in all 80 Meraklije against about 60 Otrovi (in first moment) 4 injured fans on both sides as well as one police officer. Meraklije won - Otrovi resisted as much as they could.

| Olympique de Marseille Ordered To Play Behind Closed Doors - 27/03/2009
Source : Goal.com
Les Phoceens have been told that they must play one Ligue 1 fixture behind closed doors after their over-enthusiastic fans were deemed to be causing a danger because of their flares.
Overshadowed almost wholly by Kader Mangane’s two month suspension, the Ligue de Football Professionel (LFP) took the step of ordering Olympique de Marseille to play one home game at the Stade Velodrome in front of an empty stadium. OM have been repeatedly warned about their supporters’ conduct all season and the Disciplinary Committee of Ligue 1’s governing body have finally decided to take action.
The committee had initially reacted following the away match against Olympique Lyonnais on December 14, however, les Phoceens earned a reprieve by way of appealing the ban. But, when Marseille played Nantes in their previous Ligue 1 encounter – a match they won 2-0 – smoke caused by pyrotechnics drifted across the pitch, enveloping the players. Having already received several fines and warnings for such problems, it seems that there is no escaping this ban for the Provence club.
President Pape Diouf has been left angered by the decision. “The surprise outweighs everything else,” he declared to his club’s official website. “It is a punishment that is out of place. I cannot imagine that it will work effectively. This penalty does not seem justified, and even less applicable.
Diouf, it is reported by Football365, is eager to do everything to defer the punishment until next season. OM only have four home games left this term and, because the club is so embroiled in the fight for Le Championnat, he does not want to forfeit home advantage against Grenoble, Toulouse, Lyon or Stade Rennais.

| Glentoran FC - Linfield FC - 16/03/2009Source: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/riot-police-deal-with-hooligan-fans-as-linfield-beat-glentoran-14121026.html Riot police deal with hooligan fans as Linfield beat GlentoranLocal football chiefs will once again launch an inquiry into violent scenes at a Glentoran v Linfield match after police had to be called to quell clashes at today’s annual Big Two Boxing Day meeting at Windsor Park. The Irish FA will examine the referee’s report and gather information from security staff as Linfield beat their Belfast rivals 3-0. It is the latest in a line of meetings between the clubs that have been marred by crowd trouble. There were problems at the same Boxing Day game at Windsor Park two years ago and the most infamous game between the clubs in recent years was the April 23 match in 2005 at the Oval when fans rioted on the pitch after former Linfield striker Chris Morgan scored a winner for Glentoran. Yesterday around 70 Glentoran fans — in a crowd of almost 10,000 — broke through a security cordon intended to stop them from occupying seats on the bottom deck of the North Stand in close proximity to Linfield supporters and proceeded to throw missiles at Blues fans in the Kop Stand. A series of objects were then thrown between the rival sets of fans, with stewards powerless to break up the violence. Fireworks were also thrown, coming less than two months after Linfield player Conor Hagan was hit by one just seconds after the final whistle in the County Antrim Shield final defeat by Cliftonville. Referee Michael McLaughlin stopped the match at half-time. After a seven-minute delay the match recommenced, but only when police officers in riot gear appeared on the scene. “I’m not going to criticise Glentoran Football Club or the genuine supporters, but there are people who will connect themselves to any club,” said Linfield manager David Jeffrey. | |
