Arsenal FC - Chelsea FC - 78/79
Source: forums
At this period Arsenal mob wasn't at his highest due to internal problems (they were fighting among themselves). Chelsea came into the North Bank but they were sussed out by locals who didn't let them mob up. There were a few offs but nothing serious due to the piss poor chelsea turn out. At the end of the game a group of locals (20 old faces) ran 200 Chelsea lads who were surprised and more locals arrived. One Chelsea fan was stabbed.

Violence erupted at English football league matches, with rioting and fighting at one game ending only after six policemen were injured and 70 fans arrested.
Two police officers were taken to hospital, one of them unconscious, following street battles between soccer fans armed with stones and clubs in East London after Second Division West Ham defeated Millwall I3-0.

Brentford FC - Watford FC - League Cup - ??/08/1978
Source: forum - BFC view
Watford were massed up the Ealing Road end, and towards the end of the second half there was an exodus of Brentford from the Royal Oak and New Road. This lead to both mobs (each 500+plus strong?) side by side on the open terrace. Every time they bobbed towards each other a few at the front had some hand to hand, the rest would bob back; and the stand off would be repeated. There were about 2 old bill trying to keep some distance between the two, which they just about managed until serious reinforcements arrived and all the Brentford were "escorted out". There was then some serious naughtiness involving police vans and bricks out in the Ealing Road.

Arsenal FC - Nottingham Forest - 78/79
Source: forum The Herd
During the game we got in with the Forest but nothing happened despite lots of celebrating when we scored and general abuse dished out (we wom 2-0). We did not see anything in the ground but it all happened outside as some Forest got a bit of a seeing too.
OB were usually good at escorting away fans but on this day they screwed up as alot of unescorted Forest fans were caught between the North Bank & Clock End near the ground. We heard the roar go up and rushed in to the action as any Forest were getting a good hiding - grown men were knocking on house doors and hiding under cars trying to escape. They had alot of casualties before the OB saved them from further damage.

Small groups of the reckless reds left a trail of petty theft in their wake. Almost GBP 16 worth of 10 penny pieces were taken from a car pank kiosk purses were snatched and watches grabbed from one store.
Two Liverpool fans were arrested after a publican had been attacked and joined 23 arrested fans from both teams. Most were charged for threatening behaviour with numbers almost equally shared between Liverpool ( and Ipswich (7) fans. Two Ipswich fans were arrested for carrying pieces of wood as offensive weapons while another was charged with assaulting a policeman.
The majority of Liverpool's 6000 supporters who saw their team win 1-0 had been "escorted" from their social coaches to the stadium.

I was there Rogue. We had 2 special trains that day & about 20 kids were stoning the trains as we arrived (little cunts). Stoke had the whole of one side of Ninian. We won & a small group of Stoke were in the Cardiff end opposite. It kicked off & went mental for what seemed like ages in the bottom corner. Totally outnumbered, the Stoke lads jumped over the fence/ wall. One lad was left behind & the sheepshaggers were kicking fuck out of him when one Stoke lad jumped back in!! I've never seen anything like it as he went apeshit. Next thing, they were both on the track around the pitch with thousands of Stokies cheering them on. It was well lary walking back to the station but a good day out.

Both teams had just been promoted (them as Champions), and both legs took place the week before the first league match of the season. We got stuffed 4-0 at Vicarage Road, and three days later "Revenge Night" according to the local rag; lost 3 (or 4?-1) at GP. Watford were massed up the Ealing Road end, and towards the end of the second half there was an exodus of Brentford from the Royal Oak and New Road. This lead to both mobs (each 500+plus strong?) side by side on the open terrace. Burnley FC – Celtic Glasgow – Anglo-Scottish Cup – Match played in Blackburn -12/09/1978
Source : http://ewoodpark.jimdo.com
Memories of Turf Moor being ‘taken’ from all four corners by Celtic and Rovers hooligans during a Burnley versus Celtic, Anglo-Scottish Cup match on 12.09.1978 still lingered too. There were 15,000 Burnley fans packed into Turf Moor with 10,000 Celtic and Rovers fans for the game. The main trouble started twelve minutes from the end of the game. The Celtic/Rovers fans in the away section of the Longside terrace broke through railings that had been used to create a ‘no-man’s land’ and began to take Turf Moor apart. Many claim to have never seen anything like it before or since and it is regarded by some hooligans from that era to be the quickest they have ever seen an entire away ground being ‘taken’.

18th November 1978 v West Ham away 1-1
Fuck me that was scary!
I went with my ex Mrs and her 2 brothers, one was about 12 and the other was 20 and in the Navy on submarine training. He could handle himself. I was 24 and could stand my corner when the chips were down.
We parked up and the younger brother put his scarf on, I asked him if he thought that was wise. On the way to the ground he was spat and we had a few stormy looks, but got to the ground and stood on the terrace in the "chicken run".
There were loads of west ham in there and a bunch of lads formed a little posse near us snarling and spoiling for a fight, but calmed down as they went 1-0 up.
Palace eventually drew level and all hell broke loose. I felt a kick in the back and turned to face the hooligans who were being driven back by my brother in law, who smacked the fcuk out of them. I got the mrs and her little brother behind me and fended off a few more attacks.
We were getting outnumbered so I moved towards the police and complained. One PC who had a cross hammer badge on his tunic said "Don't come here if you can't take it!"........ Nice!
We managed to avoid further trouble and got home safely, but I was so proud of my brother in law. He was awesome, but just shrugged it off saying it was nothing compared to a Saturday night in Pompey.

Spurs And Chelsea Fans Fighting.
Rioting Tottenham Hotspur fans tear down a section of iron railings in a bid to reach the Chelsea supporters before a Division One game at London’s Stamford Bridge ground.

A small group of between 100 to 150 Tottenham fans tried to take chelsea's shed, and initially scattered the Chelsea fans in their, although realising the number advantage Chelsea had, they re-grouped and gave our boys a bit of a battering, although Chelsea couldn't move us from their end, things were coming ontop for Spurs, so the other Spurs in the northstand broke down a wall to try and help out our boys in the shed, unfortunately the :cop ruined the action by pushing the Spurs who had just broke down the fence back into the northstand and they removed the 100 odd Spurs from the shed, something Chelsea despite their numbers couldn't do!
