| Samara - Spartak Moscow - 11/08/2007
Source : IOL
Racism under investigation at Spartak
The Russian Football Union (RFU) is to investigate an incident at a league game in Samara, where visiting Spartak Moscow fans unfurled a banner containing racist abuse against one of their own players.
The banner, which targeted Brazilian striker Soares Morais Welliton, recently signed by the capital side for €six million (about R59-million), was spotted in the stands of Samara stadium during Satrday's, August 11, match, which Spartak won 2-0.
The RFU said that if the racism allegations were proven, Spartak would have to pay a 500 000-rouble fine (about R1,4-million) or play their next match behind closed doors.

| Lazio in danger of being thrown out after latest racism incident - 16/08/2007
Source : The Guardian
Uefa has said it will review the Champions League third qualifying round match between Lazio and Dinamo Bucharest on Tuesday, a game which ended 1-1 but was overshadowed by violence and racist chanting. Five Romanians were injured in clashes with Lazio fans and one remains in hospital after being stabbed in the side. Inside the ground Lazio's notorious right-wing element chanted racist slogans before and during the game. The rest of the home fans tried to drown out the chanting by whistling and booing their own fans but Uefa has launched its inquiry and could, in the worst-case scenario, throw the Serie A side out of the tournament.
The ugly scenes in Rome came less than two weeks after Michel Platini, the president of the European governing body, said Uefa would employ zero tolerance on racism this season. "We will be strong," he said. "We will not say 'please don't do that'. We will not leave space for racism in football just like we will not tolerate fighting or violence. In the past clubs have been fined and we have appealed because we thought that the fines were not enough." Asked if clubs could be expelled from competitions, he said: "Why not?"
Before Tuesday's game Lazio's coach, Delio Rossi, pleaded with the fans to avoid the club getting into trouble, saying that anyone who made racist remarks was "an idiot", but he was badly let down by the supporters on the night and now faces an anxious wait for Uefa's verdict to find out whether he will be allowed to take his team to Romania for the second leg next week.
Yesterday the Uefa spokesman said: "We have to await the referee and observer reports before deciding whether to launch any disciplinary action but we are looking into what went on at Lazio. We had concerns about racism before the game."
The last Champions League game in the Italian capital, when Manchester United played Roma in April, ended with 28 English fans injured - 10 of them suffering stab wounds - while Lazio have been punished by Uefa on three occasions over violent and racist behaviour. In 2004 they were forced to play behind closed doors after racist abuse and crowd disturbances during a Uefa Cup match.
The club have hardly been helped by some of their players in the past, such as Sinisa Mihajlovic calling Patrick Vieira a "black shit" in 2000 and the former West Ham United forward Paolo Di Canio making fascist salutes towards the club's fans at the end of games.
Lazio's president, Claudio Lotito, has desperately tried to distance the club from its right-wing supporters since taking over in 2004. This summer he promised to do everything he could "to change today's sick football" but last night he must have been painfully aware of just how much there is left to do.

| Lions handed £30,000 fine by Football Association - 15/08/2007
Source: ESPN
Millwall have been handed a £30,000 fine by the Football Association after their players failed to improve their disciplinary record.
The fine was imposed after the Lions failed 'to show an acceptable improvement in its disciplinary record' and for a 'poor record of misconduct' during last season.
The FA have also handed Millwall an additional suspended £30,000 which will be imposed should their disciplinary record not improve during the current season.
The club have also been warned as to future conduct after 'failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion' in the 4-2 defeat at Huddersfield in April after Michael Collins was sent off and three players were cautioned.

| CSKA Sofia hit with record fine - 15/08/2007
Source : Sports Network
Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia was hit with a record fine and ordered to host its next two home games behind closed doors on Wednesday after fan violence during its match with Litex last Saturday.
The Bulgarian Football Union's (BFU) disciplinary commission levied a fine of $26,060, the largest in league history, against the 30-time league champions and ordered a one-match crowd ban for the displaying of discriminative and abusive banners.
An additional $2,085 fine and one-match crowd ban was also handed down by the BFU for the behavior of CSKA supporters during the club's 1-1 draw at Litex in a game that saw three red cards and 10 bookings given out.
Fans threw objects onto the field during the match, with one policeman injured after being hit with the flying debris.
The crowd ban will take place during CSKA's match against Belasitsa on Sunday and the club's September 2 contest versus Beroe.
CSKA officials have said that they will appeal the decision because they feel that the penalties are too harsh.

| NK Široki Brijeg - Hapoel Tel Aviv - 16/08/2008 Source : Forum + AP When the local football team make a goal, from the locals side leave torchs towards the opposing fans. The NK Široki Brijeg Fans during the match had sung anti-israelian song and in favor of the "ustaca" serbian. At the end of the match there is attemp of contact. ********************************************************************** Source : Forum Two were arrested and one fan was evacuated to a hospital following the incident. After gaining a 1-0 advantage in the 14th minute, Hapoel fans celebrated by lighting torches and throwing them on the field. Local ushers threw the torches back at the crowd, setting the seats in the old stadium on fire. The UEFA observer and referee immediately ordered the game come to a halt. The Israeli fans, which were held up by local police officers before entering the stadium at the start of the game, were confronted once again with the same officers, who beat them severely with sticks. Many fans suffered injuries from the beating and pushing by Bosnian police officers, who were instructed to evacuate all the Hapoel fans from the stadium. The Israeli ambassador in Bosnia has been making attempts to have the two fans who were arrested released in order for them to catch their flight back home on Friday. Only after the evacuation, which took about 15 minutes, was complete did the observer order the game to resume. Israeli fans were not allowed back into the stadium, and missed the end of the match in which their team won 3-0. Embarrassed Hapoel heads tried to calm things down, but are expecting serious responses from the UEFA administration, which may lead to harsh sanctions or even immediate expulsion from European soccer. Upon returning to Israel, Hapoel heads will consult with legal advisors in order to try and minimize the sanctions the team will receive. The Israel Football Association was quick to condemn the incident, saying, "The Football Association condemns all incidents of inappropriate behavior of the fans. It's a shame that a handful of fans harms the beloved team, and gives Hapoel Tel Aviv in particular and Israeli soccer in general a bad name." Former chairman of the Knesset Inquiry Committee on Violence in Sports MK Avshalom Vilan said, "It is a shame to Israeli sport in general, and to the soccer fans in particular. "I view Hapoel Tel Aviv's fans' violent rioting very severely and urge the team's management to identify the rioters and give their names to the Israel Police. In addition, they should be banned for good from all of the team's matches in Israel."

| Sparta Praha - Arsenal fc - 16/08/2007Source : JTA Czech leaders denounce anti-Semitic chanting Czech Jewish leaders sent a letter of complaint to the country's leading soccer team concerning anti-Semitic chants during games. AC Sparta fans chanted the German word for Jew, Jude, during a Wednesday match in Prague between Sparta and the British team Arsenal. This is a chant frequently aimed at Sparta's Czech rival, Slavia. The letter to AC Sparta's chairman Daniel Kretinsky states, "The use of the German word 'Jude' for Jew dispels any doubts about the fact that the word was used as an insult, in the same way as it was used during the mass persecution of Jews during World War II." The letter, signed by Prague Jewish Community Chairman Frantisek Banyai and Prague Jewish Museum director Leo Pavlat, continues, “Before the match with Arsenal your club was warned about manifestations” of racism “during matches and you said the authors of such manifestations can be identified and held responsible.” Pavlat and Banyai then requested that the club management make good on its promise. Responding to the open letter in a statement to the Czech News Agency, AC Sparta spokesman Jakub Otava said the chants would be investigated and that the team's management cooperates closely with the police on such matters. "The club's position on the problem has been absolutely clear for a long time. We do not want racists and anti-Semites at stadiums," he said. | |

Bulgarian match suspended after linesman hit
A Bulgarian second division match between Lokomotiv Mezdra and Minyor Pernik was suspended midway through the second half on Saturday after a linesman was hit by objects thrown from the crowd.
Referee Anatoli Donchev stopped play in the season opener in the 69th minute after linesman Neshko Marinov was hit on the head and knee by the missiles thrown by visiting Minyor Pernick fans.
Marimov was taken to hospital where doctors said he had sustained concussion and an injury to his left knee.
The incident in Mezdra was the latest ugly episode in Bulgarian domestic football. Champions Levski Sofia and their city rivals CSKA were ordered to play two matches behind closed doors because of fan violence.

| Port Vale - Bristol Rovers - 11/08/2007
Source: local press
Football violence mars Vale game
Violent disorder broke out before Port Vale's first league game of the season, with extra police officers called in to deal with the trouble. One man was arrested for assault as police struggled to keep Vale and Bristol Rovers fans apart.
Bottles were also thrown at police in a car park at Vale Park, Burslem, after Saturday's 1-1 draw.
Staffordshire Police said there was further disorder in Burslem Park, Swann Square and Market Square.
'Disappointing start'
Only a small number of officers were initially deployed to deal with the game and more had to be drafted in when the trouble started, the force said.
Det Insp Andy Shackleton said: "This was a very disappointing start to this year's football season.
"We have been working hard with Port Vale to tackle football-related disorder.
"The club are determined to provide a safe and family-friendly environment for true supporters to watch their team and the actions of up to 100 so-called fans on Saturday puts this work at risk.
"We will work closely with the club over the coming weeks to target the criminals involved."
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the violence to come forward.
