300 Reds fans go on the rampage
More than 300 Liverpool fans went on the rampage through Ipswich town centre on Saturday stealing money and goos before the FA Cup tie.Trouble began as shops opened and police issued warnings over local radio for shopkeeper to keep their tills locked unless they were being used.
The main trouble spot was a clothes shop invaded by about 30 Liverpool supporters, who distracted attention while GBP 31 was taken from the till. A shop assitant was punched on the bose but not badly hurt.
Small groups of the reckless reds left a trail of petty theft in their wake.
Almost GBP 16 worth of 10 penny pieces were taken from a car pank kiosk purses were snatched and watches grabbed from one store.
Two Liverpool fans were arrested after a publican had been attacked and joined 23 arrested fans from both teams.
Most were charged for threatening behaviour with numbers almost equally shared between Liverpool (
and Ipswich (7) fans.
Two Ipswich fans were arrested for carrying pieces of wood as offensive weapons while another was charged with assaulting a policeman.
The majority of Liverpool's 6000 supporters who saw their team win 1-0 had been "escorted" from their social coaches to the stadium.
