| Millwall FC - Wolverhampton Wanderers - 01/04/1967Source : Mirrorpix Source: http://www.molineuxmix.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?s=a2f864392a7cb6d668a426715bd2d4ea&t=47148&page=2 Easter 1967 at the Old Den. We are going for promotion, unbeaten in about 15 games. They have been unbeaten at home for something like 40 games. We are 1 down and in the last minute we get a pen. Wagstaffe, of all people, takes it. And misses! 20,000 happy East End boot boys. Then, with about 5 seconds left on the clock, the Doog scores one of his in-off-my-shin-$$$$-and-several-other-body-parts goals from about a yard out. A fan runs on the pitch and attacks Dougan, and is dragged off by the police. Deathly silence and a lot of suddenly clenched fists, as Wolves fans keep their mouths shut and quietly start removing their scarves. On the way out all hell breaks loose, with a mob of about a thousand east end nutters in big boots and bracers chasing any suspected Wolves fans they can find down the Old Kent Road. I remember many running on the rooves of parked cars, jumping from one to the next, to get away. Got to the coaches, sharpish exit with tyres squealing and house bricks raining down on us. I've never been back since! | |

The away coach was attacked and windows were smashed. In the same year referee Norman Burtenshaw was attacked and The FA ordered the club to erect fences around The Den's terracing. | |
