Levadeiakos FC - AEK - 27/11/2005

Source : REÜTERS

Fans attacked police and set fire to a television broadcasting van halting a Greek first division match between Levadiakos and AEK Athens on Sunday.

The match, which AEK won 1-0 to go top, was interrupted for 20 minutes midway through the first half. According to police reports, the trouble began when around 500 AEK fans without tickets attempted to gain entry to the ground.

Clashes between fans and riot police resulted in four policemen receiving attention for light injuries, a spokesman for a local hospital said.

Television pictures showed fans showering the police with rocks and smashing up a car with planks of wood.

The outside broadcast van of Alpha, the television company broadcasting the match, was also attacked.

A producer for Alpha said fans had set fire to the van with a Molotov cocktail, destroying a large amount of equipment.

Fans also set fire to a car belonging to Alpha.

After a delay the match resumed although Alpha was unable to broadcast the action live.

Djurgarden IF - IFK Gothenburg - 26/11/2005

Source : REÜTERS

Around 100 Djurgarden and IFK Gothenburg hooligans were involved in a fight in Stockholm, the daily Aftonbladet reported on its website.

Police intervened at Medborgarplatsen in the south of the Swedish capital, arresting one person after a clash they said had probably been planned.

"We got several calls saying there were full-blown fights with fists and stones," police told Aftonbladet. "It was over in two minutes and everything is okay now."

Nobody was injured during the clashes, the police said.

RIOT FEAR STALKS DE SAVARY DEBUT - 29/11/2005
MILLWALL v BIRMINGHAM, TONIGHT

Source : MIRROR

THEO PAPHITIS is praying the start of Peter de Savary's reign as Millwall chairman is not ruined by any of the violence which accompanied Birmingham's last visit.

Nearly 50 police officers were injured in a mass riot as 900 hooligans went on the rampage after the Lions' play-off semi-final defeat to City in May, 2002.

Thugs hurled bricks, paving stones, flares and fireworks at police lines and Paphitis, Millwall's then chairman and now a director, hopes there will be no repeat for tonight's Carling Cup tie for de Savary's first game.

"I try and forget about that evening," said Paphitis.

Millwall were without an eligible keeper for the tie but will now field Chelsea reserve Lenny Pidgeley, who they have signed on an emergency seven-day loan.

Hungarian Jewish community asks federation to act on racist chants - 29/11/2005

Source : AP

Representatives of Hungary's Jewish community asked soccer officials to take action Tuesday after anti-Semitic slurs were chanted during a match.
Ujpest FC fans made the remarks during a 2-0 victory Saturday over MTK Budapest, a club founded by and still identified with Hungarian Jews.
"Hungary, which aspires to host the European championships, cannot allow even one such instance to remain without consequences, because this could cause them to be repeated and grow worse," the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities said a letter to the Hungarian Football Federation.
The soccer federation's disciplinary committee was expected to review the incident later Tuesday.
Ujpest officials condemned the slurs, saying they were made by "one or two unrestrained people ... whose actions shock and infuriate every honorable person."
Ujpest, which also criticized MTK fans for responding by calling Ujpest supporters Nazis, said it would ban anyone proven to have made the anti-Semitic remarks.
MTK blamed the referee for failing to act when Ujpest supporters chanted the slurs at opposing fans.

Chelsea fined 30,000 pounds for fan trouble - 29/11/2005

Source: Xinhua

English Premier League top runners Chelsea were fined 30,000 pounds (45,000 euros) by the Football Association (FA) here Monday for failing to control their supporters in a League Cup tie against West Ham last season.

Meanwhile, West Ham have been warned by the FA about their future conduct following the incident during the third-round tie on October 27 2004.

During the match, Chelsea gamewinner Mateja Kezman was forced to leave the field for treatment to a head injury caused by a missile, believed to be a coin, which appeared to have been thrown from a section of West Ham fans.

Police in riot gear were then confronted by visiting supporters in a corner section of the ground 10 minutes after the final whistle and they fought with officers and Chelsea fans, with it taking 15 minutes for order to be restored.

Chelsea to appeal fan trouble fine - 29/11/2005

Source: AFP

Chelsea will appeal against a 30,000-pound ($70,000) fine imposed by the Football Association (FA) overnight for failing to control their supporters in a League Cup tie against West Ham last season.

During the game, which took place on October 27 last year, Chelsea match-winner Mateja Kezman was forced to leave the field for treatment to a head injury caused by a missile, believed to be a coin, which appeared to have been thrown from a section of West Ham fans.

Police in riot gear were then confronted by visiting supporters in a corner section of the ground 10 minutes after the final whistle and they fought with officers and Chelsea fans, with it taking 15 minutes for order to be restored.

In a statement Chelsea, the Premiership champions and League Cup holders, said: "Chelsea is to appeal the verdict and the punishment following the decision by an FA disciplinary commission sanctions hearing.

"Chelsea and West Ham were reprimanded and warned as to their future conduct today. Chelsea were also fined 30,000 pounds. No financial penalty was imposed on West Ham.

"Having considered the outcome, Chelsea will be contesting that punishment and the guilty verdict."

Chelsea, who lead the Premiership by 10 points from Manchester United, were knocked out of this season's League Cup last month by Charlton after a penalty shoot-out.

Bolton: Banned fans on list of shame - 07/11/2005

Source: This is Lancashire

EIGHT Bolton Wanderers fans have been banned from football matches since the start of this season in a crackdown on soccer thugs.

The ban means they cannot attend any club or international games.

The government announced earlier this year that instead of being issued with cautions or fixed-penalty notices for crimes related to football disorder - such as breaking windows or using threatening behaviour - fans would be taken to court and given football banning orders.

The move is designed to stop trouble at next year's World Cup in Germany.

And police warned today that known offenders would be targeted over the coming months.

Nationally, Home Office figures have revealed that a record number of hooligans are now subject to banning orders - a total of 3,153.

More than 1,000 were issued last year and among those who were banned were 12 Bolton Wanderers fans.

Police chiefs in Bolton today vowed that anyone who caused trouble at football matches would face a ban.

"We will not tolerate anyone who wants to cause a nuisance either around the Reebok Stadium or when they follow Bolton around the country," said PC Adie Ollerton, Bolton football intelligence officer.

"We are working closely with other forces and divisions and use plain clothes spotters to root out any troublemakers.

"We have got one eye on the World Cup and the authorities are keen to make sure that anyone who causes problems in this country is not allowed to travel abroad."

The national figures also showed arrests for football-related offences dipped 11 per cent to 3,628 in 2004/05.

The number of arrests at league matches were the lowest since records began.

A total of 27 Wanderers fans were arrested at home and away matches last season - a rise of two on the previous season.

Anyone served with a banning order under the Football Disorder Act, which can last for two to 10 years, faces prison if they enter any ground in England or Wales.

Banned supporters must surrender their passport ahead of international fixtures and report to a police station on match days.

Burnley: Clarets top league for banning thugs - 07/11/2005

Source: This is Lancashire

BURNLEY is among the UK's best clubs at kicking football hooligans out of the game, new Government figures reveal.

Today police and club officials said the findings show their efforts to making matchdays trouble-free zones are working.

The figures are revealed in the Home Office's statistics showing all football related arrests and banning orders during the 2004-5 season.

The statistics reveal that Burnley is among the UK's front-runners when it comes to thwarting known troublemakers with only seven of the country's 100 plus clubs issuing more than the 28 banning orders police handed out last season.

Subjects have to sign on at their local station on the day of the fixture and surrender their passports when their domestic club or national team is playing abroad.

The banning orders, which put the club third highest in the 24-strong Championship, were issued as part of Operation Fixture - a Home Office funded scheme staffed by two officers dedicated to targetting individuals who engage in any form of football-related violence or disorder.

And Sergeant Colin Hudson of Operation Fixture said the latest statistics showed those intent on match day trouble were being dealt with.

"People do not want their entertainment spoiled by a minority of mindless idiots."

The initiative started in November 2002 and there are now 73 individuals from the Burnley area banned from football matches in England and Wales.

The Home Office figures also reveal that Blackburn Rovers are not shy about handing out banning orders with the Ewood Park team issuing 21 itself bringing its total to 40.

The bans normally last for three years and carry a power of arrest if breached.

The figures also show football-related arrests and again show police are getting tough with Burnley fans with 83 arrested last season compared to 35 the year before.

Blackburn saw their number of fans arrested drop by two to 44 and only one of Conference side Accrington Stanley's fans was arrested for a public order offence.

Nationally the statistics show a 21 per cent increase in the number of football banning orders - rising from 2,596 in October 2004 to 3,153 as of October this year.

Switzerland-England: Travel warning to soccer thugs - 10/11/2005

Source: This is Lancashire

FOOTBALL hooligans planning to travel to Geneva for England's friendly match against Argentina on Saturday are being urged to think again.

Police will target known or potential troublemakers travelling from Manchester Airport to commit football violence.

As part of Operation Detergent, plain clothed and uniformed police officers will be stationed at the airport from Thursday until the match on Saturday.

Eight thousand tickets have been made available to England fans, all of which have been sold and police are urging those people who have not already got tickets not to travel.

Coventry: How we're keeping soccer yobs in check - 11/11/2005

Source: Coventry Telegraph

A TOTAL of 24 soccer hooligans have been banned from attending any football matches in the two months since kick-off at the city's Ricoh Arena.

The orders, imposed by Coventry magistrates, prevent them from going to any games in the country or matches abroad.

Police said the majority of the arrests and banning orders came for drunken thuggery, including fighting and abusive behaviour.

And they say the trouble-makers form a very small minority of people who go to the Sky Blues' ground.

Police believe the stringent use of banning orders by city magistrates is stopping people from causing trouble as they know they will be banned from football matches.

Insp Arthur Barrett, the man responsible for policing the Ricoh Arena, said: "Football supporters today are overwhelmingly very well behaved.

"We are dealing with a minority of idiots, and this season the courts have been very supportive.

"We suspect the banning orders are starting to impact, with the World Cup next year being quite local, they won't be able to go to Germany.

"Reality is starting to impact on the way they are behaving."

From a control room in the Marconi stand at the new arena, police, Arena Coventry staff and ambulance and fire staff work together to ensure the safety of the crowd.

Huge crackdown on hooligan soccer fans - 26/11/2005

Source: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk

RAILWAY police are taking part in a huge operation today to target soccer hooligans making their way to games in South Yorkshire.
More than 500 officers will be on duty at railway stations in the country to arrest troublemakers and prevent drunk or disorderly fans boarding trains.
Among matches targeted in the British Transport Police crackdown are the Rovers game against Bristol City, Sheffield United's Championship clash at Leicester and the Owls' home game against Stoke.
Supporters arrested for being drunk of causing trouble face banning orders. So far more than 3,000 soccer yobs have been served with orders which stop them attending domestic and international games.
Police say the fixtures in London involving supporters of Leeds and Hull are of "particular concern".
Andy Trotter, Deputy Chief Constable of British Transport Police, said: "Rowdy football fans can be a nightmare for other passengers. Even when they are only being boisterous, in the confines of a train or in large groups on stations, they can be very intimidating." Officers were focusing on the Hull game against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, west London because of hostility between fans dating back to a match this summer when Hull supporters taunted QPR fans over the July 7 bombings, BTP spokesman Simon Lubin said.
He said there was also a history of bitter rivalry between supporters of Leeds and Millwall, who play each other today.
This is the second 'day of action' run by transport police, the first took place at the end of last season. In that operation officers arrested 10 people after targeting 15 problem games. In one incident, 20 fans wielding bottles and other weapons clashed at Clapham Junction station in south London.
Earlier this week the transport police revealed West Ham fans were top of the disorder league this season after being involved in four serious incidents, twice as many as any other club's fans.
The operation is in support of the Association of Chief Police Officers' positive arrest policy aimed at gaining as many football banning orders as possible against hooligans in the run-up to the World Cup.
Train operators will use barrier controls and police will operate a strict zero tolerance policy. Anyone who is drunk, disorderly or attempting to avoid payment will not travel and may be arrested.
Police and community support officers will be at departure and destination stations and escorting trains.
Officers will hand out leaflets and cards bearing the messages 'don't let the hooligans win' and 'keep football for the fans'. They give a freefone number - 0800 405040 - which fans can use to report hooligan activity.

Football fans arrested at Stansted Airport appear in court - 13/11/2005

Source: http://www.uk-airport-news.info

Four soccer fans detained at Stansted airport on Friday, en route to the England v Argentina international in Switzerland, have appeared in court. The men appeared before magistrates in Chelmsford.

Police say the men - who were not remanded in custody - are known to them and officers had reason to believe that they might commit offences if allowed to travel. Officers want magistrates to make the men the subject of banning orders under the Football Spectators Act and prevent them from attending games.

Police named the men as: Lee Nodder, Steven Campbell and Craig Cupitt, all in their 20s and from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and Jason Sorsby, 33, from Bristol. The hearing was adjourned until December 20, when the case will be heard by magistrates in Harlow, Essex.

Brazilian soccer fan killed in clash between rival gangs - 07/11/2005

Source: http://newsfromrussia.com/accidents/2005/11/07/67133.html

A 20-year-old soccer fan was hacked to death and dozens were arrested after a brutal clash between rival soccer gangs, police confirmed Monday.

Rafick da Silva Cancio was lashed three times with a sickle when a brawl erupted Sunday during a chance meeting of Flamengo and Botafogo fans. Cancio, a fan of Botafogo, died before police arrived to stop the melee.

"It was inhuman," officer Delis Prates said.

The fans, in two bus convoys, arrived late for the game and were turned away from the stadium in Volta Redonda, 108 kilometers southwest of Rio, media reported. They were returning to Rio when a Botafogo bus stopped with a flat tire and the Flamengo group pulled up.

The buses emptied and the fans brawled with sticks and stones. A Flamengo fan reportedly found a sickle left near the roadside by a fruit vendor and attacked Cancio.

Police arrested about 160 fans - mostly from the Flamengo Young Fans group - although most were later released.

Flamengo, a five-time national champion, is Brazil's most popular club but is struggling this season to avoid relegation, the AP reports.
