Mr B*****, from Pimlico, south west London, is due to appear before Greenwich Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Three banned from football ground - 05/02/05

Source : BBC NEWS

Bans have been imposed on three people to try to prevent trouble at a South Yorkshire derby football match.
The bans mean that the three people from Barnsley will not be allowed into the Barnsley FC ground.
The action has been taken by Police and Clubs Together (PACT), an organisation set up to make football grounds a safer place for genuine fans.
The bans were in preparation for Saturday's game between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday.
Match commander Supt Keith Lumley said the ban meant the individuals were not allowed on premises for a specific period because of their past involvement in football violence.
"We want fans to come and enjoy the football. Troublemakers are not welcome and operations will take place before, during and after the game to gather evidence for prosecutions.
"The PACT ban is one of a number of options available to make football grounds a safer and more friendly environment for genuine fans."

West Ham UTD - Cardiff City - 05/02/2005

Source : ITK - CCFC view

a 1pm sunday, restricted, 'bubble' game and we still take a very decent firm on the road.
nothing before the game, never saw west ham. but they must have been about somewhere if the amount of ob was anything to go by.
after the game a few lines of plod decide they are keeping us in for 20 minutes. ccfc decide not to have this and eventually force ob back and themselves out of the ground. ob contain us in the street outside the ground and apart from some scuffles with plod by the buses it seemed that would be it. again, never saw west ham. the coaches eventually move up barking road and all seems quiet until we pass the dukes head?? a mob of west ham had come outside and had thrown bricks at the passing coaches (very 70's ). what they didnt bargain on was that a few ccfc coaches pulled over and the occupants steamed off and were heading towards the pub. the last coach of ccfc was able to see both the ccfc getting off the bus and also the whu outside the pub. lines of ob held the cardiff back but a bouncer/doorman and a handful of plod quickly ushered the whu back into the pub from which they never returned. the occupants of the final coach then tried to get out and at the pub. a proper toe to toe with ob followed. plod trying to get on the bus, but they never got past first base. a baton was relieved from plod during this altercation and as plod couldnt get on the bus they asked a cardiff steward (a woman) to appeal for the baton back or the whole bus would be nicked.
after much piss taking, 'can we have our baton back please'? it was returned.
so, no major result being claimed here, but it did seem that cardiff were prepared to go that extra mile when the chance of a confrontation did arise.

Lille OSC - RC Lens - cup - 12/02/05

Source: mail + post

Local lad view:

About 100 locals waited for an off.
Many phonecalls were exchanged between both sides from 4.30pm to 7pm (game at 8pm) but visitors never gave us their localisation.
Finally, at 7pm they announced they are close to the stadium.
So we tried to avoid our police escort and we arrived in front of visitors (for my own About 80 but I prefer waiting their number) whose are well escorted too. But cops were totally surprised by us but no punches were exchanged.
It must be noticed 7 Lens Tigers exchanged punches with Lille equal mob in another place. Tigers on the run.

***********************************************************

Lens lad view:

About 80 Lens lads for this derby. Cops spotted us when we arrived and we finally were escorted to the stadium. We gave a phonecall to locals with the aim to have an off, forcing the escort but when they arrived they stood 5 at 5 meters from the cops.
Mabe better next time.

Three clubs team up to ban thugs - 12/02/2005

Source : BBC NEWS

Nineteen persistent football hooligans have been banned from all matches in Notts for a total of 104 years.

One supporter has also had his ban increased to life in the join-up between Nottingham Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town.

So far 130 orders have been handed out, seven to Forest supporters, five to Mansfield town fans and seven to Notts County supporters.

One Forest fan, previously barred for 10 years, has had his order increased.

Officers have banned him from matches for life after they found evidence that he had continued to cause trouble.

Anyone served with an order is automatically barred from the City Ground, Meadow Lane and Field Mill.

Everton FC - Manchester UTD - cup - 19/02/05

Source :AFP + BBC NEWS

Five police officers were injured and 33 arrests were made after groups of supporters clashed following the Everton versus Manchester United FA Cup tie.

Police tried to break up groups of fighting supporters from both teams who then turned on the officers, Merseyside Police said. A police spokesman said the arrests were for public order offences or for being drunk and disorderly.

He said that an incident of serious disorder took place after last night's fifth-round match as both sets of fans clashed in the Everton Valley district of Liverpool.

One of the injured officers needed hospital treatment but was not thought to be seriously injured.

A large-scale police presence was required to escort the away supporters from Everton's Goodison Park stadium through the city centre after sporadic incidents of disorder, police added.

"The incidents were quickly dealt with by the officers at the scene and the escort was established to cause as little disruption as possible," the spokesman said.

Manchester United supporters eventually boarded their trains at Liverpool's Lime Street station shortly after 9pm (2100 GMT).

Earlier, the match had been marred when a missile was thrown from the crowd and felled Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

A police officer recovered a mobile phone from the pitch and detectives will examine it to find who it belongs to. It is not known if this was the object which hit the player.

Merseyside Police said they are liaising with Everton stewards over the incident and will be studying CCTV and TV footage in an effort to identify who threw the missile during the second half of the game.

Officers spoke to fans sitting nearby to where the incident took place in one of the home supporters' stands and took witness statements.

Two youths were also arrested during the match for throwing plastic bottles towards the pitch. The missiles did not hit anyone and the incident is not thought to be connected with the other attack.

Everton have vowed to ban for life the fan who threw the missile that struck Carroll during United's 2-0 win.

Ian Ross, Everton's director of communications, branded the fan responsible as a "mindless moron" as the FA revealed that they would be liaising with the club and police over the incident.

Ross said: "It was a disgraceful incident, but an isolated one and we hope the police will be able to deal with it.

"We prepared for a major fixture in the right way, and made appeals to fans about their behaviour. And 99 percent did behave well but just one fan has disgraced the name of this club.

"We are determined to find him. We accept that we are responsible for the behaviour of our fans and we apologise to Roy Carroll and the Manchester United team. It shouldn't happen but how can you stop it?

"One mindless moron spoilt things for everyone else. There is no place for that sort of thing at Goodison Park and when we discover the culprit he will be banned for life."

The Football Association have welcomed Everton's initiative to identify the thug who threw an object at Carroll.

FA head of media Adrian Bevington told The Press Association: "We are in the process of speaking to the club and to Merseyside Police. We welcome the comments from Everton Football Club immediately following the match and their desire to have the culprit identified and then for the police to deal with them."

Meanwhile Everton will launch an investigation after England striker Wayne Rooney was involved in a spat with sponsors prior to Saturday's match.

The incident occurred as Rooney, making his first return to Everton since leaving the club in an acrimonious 27-million-pound (39-million-euro) transfer last summer, left the field after his pre-match warm-up.

The Football Association is to investigate after Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll was hit by a coin during the FA Cup win at Everton.

Carroll was felled after being hit in the 70th minute of Saturday's match, although he was able to continue.

Spokesman Adrian Bevington confirmed that the FA was speaking to Everton and to Merseyside Police.

"Individuals who throw missiles must face action from the police and through the courts and receive bans," he added.

Everton spokesman Ian Ross said the club was making CCTV and TV footage of the incident available to Merseyside Police.

"It would appear that the video recordings and footage we got prove quite conclusive," he said.

"The gentleman left the ground before the police could get him but we think with the video evidence we got we may be able to identify him.

"We are determined to find the individual in question and he will be banned for life if found guilty by the courts."

Wayne Rooney's return to his boyhood club for the first time since his £30m transfer to United had raised fears over crowd security.

And more than 30 football fans were arrested and five police officers injured as trouble flared in Liverpool on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Everton will launch an investigation after Rooney was involved in a row with sponsors prior to the match.

The incident occurred as United striker Rooney left the field after his pre-match warm-up, when he was seen exchanging angry words with two members of the group of match-ball sponsors.

Everton's head of communications Ross said: "We view the situation very seriously and it will be investigated. We will want to hear the sponsors' side before taking any action."

Burnley FC - Blackburn Rovers - 20/02/2005

Source : AFP

A hooligan with a history of football-related offences was jailed for five months after running on to the pitch and confronting Blackburn's Robbie Savage during Rovers's derby FA Cup tie at Burnley's Turf Moor ground.

Jobless Michael Lewis was already serving a three-year ban from every football stadium in England and Wales before Sunday's goalless clash between the Lancashire rivals.

The 42-year-old Burnley fan invaded the pitch and headed straight for Savage.

He was seen by millions of TV viewers offering to fight the Wales international, Burnley Magistrates' Court heard.

Lewis, who has 24 previous convictions including some for football-related incidents at Millwall, Blackpool and Wolverhampton, was warned off by players from both sides who protected Savage.

He then ran to the touchline and assaulted two officers as they arrested him.

Lewis, from Nelson, Lancashire, pleaded guilty to breaching the football banning order, encroaching on the football pitch, using threatening and abusive behaviour towards Savage and assaulting two police officers.

He was jailed for five months and given another football banning order for 10 years.

Savage was not the only player finding himself under assault from fans during last weekend's matches, with Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll hit by a coin thrown from the stands at Goodison Park during the FA Cup holders' 2-0 win away to Everton.

In Scotland, Fernando Ricksen was hit by a cigarette lighter thrown by a Celtic fan at Parkhead as visitors Rangers won the Old Firm derby 2-0.

At Turf Moor, in a separate incident, two other supporters managed to evade stewards and police before getting on the pitch. Both have been charged and will appear before Burnley magistrates on Wednesday.

Burnley have already vowed to ban the three men from Turf Moor for life. There were also violent incidents outside the ground and 20 arrests were made in what was a rare derby match with Blackburn in the Premiership and Burnley the Championship.

Merseyside Police said they were looking at closed circuit television footage of the match at Goodison where both Carroll and United striker Wayne Rooney, on his first match back at the club since departing for Old Trafford, both had items thrown at them.

Among the objects recovered on the pitch were a mobile phone and plastic bottles.

After Saturday's match in Liverpool, police also had to contend with trouble from both Everton and United fans. Five officers were injured after being attacked with stones and bottles amidst what one senior policeman described as "the worst football-related violence ever seen in Liverpool".

Some have said the late, 1730GMT, kick-off contributed to the crowd problems as it meant fans had more time than usual to fuel up with alcohol before the game got underway.

The BBC and FA have had a policy of showing the main Cup tie of the weekend late on Saturday afternoon but, following the Goodison game, sports minister Richard Caborn has been among those calling for a review.

FA chief executive Brian Barwick, formerly head of sport at British terrestrial broadcaster ITV, having previously held a senior sports position at the BBC, said he understood the concern regarding late kick-offs.

"There has been wide debate surrounding the decision to play the Everton v Manchester United FA Cup tie early on Saturday evening," Barwick told the FA's website, www.thefa.com

"While kick-off times are always subject to the full approval of the local police force, I accept the valid debate and questions raised regarding this."

Everton spokesman Ian Ross insisted the club had not pushed for a late kick-off: "If the police, at any point, believe that they cannot safely police a football match they can object to a kick-off time and have it moved.

"The argument that we were pushing for a 5.30pm (1730 GMT) kick-off for the TV fee is irrelevant. We would still have got the same fee for a lunchtime kick-off or a Sunday game. Because of the nature of the match, it would have been screened at some time."

However, Merseyside chief constable Bernard Hogan-Howe said: "No broadcaster, or frankly anyone in this country, would want a situation where the police turn round and say you cannot have that game when you want it."

Fifteen charged over cup violence - feb.21

Source : BBC NEWS

Fourteen men and a teenager have been charged in connection with the clashes following Everton's FA cup tie with Manchester United.

Merseyside Police released details on Monday evening of 27 of the 33 people arrested after Saturday's game.

The force will be holding talks with the Football Association over the game.

Five officers were injured as police in riot gear were involved in disturbances outside Goodison Park. Police blame the 1730 GMT kick off.

Public order

A Merseyside Police spokesman said 14 men and a male youth from places including Huddersfield, Manchester, Liverpool, the Isle of Man, Warrington, Hull, Seaforth, Flintshire, Sandbach, and Wirral had been charged with a variety of offences including public order offences, possession of alcohol in a sports venue, drunk and disorderly, affray and assault.

One man from Manchester and another from Kirkby have been handed fixed penalty fines for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Seven men and a male youth, from Liverpool, High Wycombe, Stockport, Litherland, St Helens, and Upton have been bailed pending further inquiries, to return to police stations at later dates.

These are in connection with a number of offences including violent disorder, affray and public order offences.

Police say none of the offences relate to the attack on United keeper Roy Carroll who was felled by a coin thrown from the crowd.

Probe launched into attack on football supporters - 23/02/2005

Source : Evening Echo

A police chief today said plans to stop trouble when Belfast football team Linfield and its Protestant supporters went into Derry’s republican Bogside for a high profile match against Derry City last night failed.

Chief Superintendent Richard Russell, head of policing in the city, said: ”The concept was right. Unfortunately, the delivery was not right.”

He revealed that he had launched a debrief inquiry to establish what went wrong.

Teen hooligans stoned buses carrying the Protestant fans away from the match smashing widows in six buses and traumatising many of those inside – a lot of them children.

Ten people suffered shock and one person was slightly injured.

It was the first time in 35 years that Linfield had ventured into the Bogside for what was billed as a friendly.

The match itself – a 1-1 draw – passed off without incident and there was no trouble between the 2,000 Derry City fans and the 300 visitors.

But as the Linfield supporters were bussed away from the Brandywell ground in a convoy, the stone-throwers struck.

Private security guards hired by Derry City and club stewards could not stop them. No one there could see any police officers at the scene, although Mr Russell said there had been “a low-profile presence”.

Because of the problems long associated with police officers entering the Bogside and the trouble that can provoke when tensions are high, much planning had gone into trying to ensure the night passed off without incident.

While the presence was low profile outside the ground, there were “lots of officers further out to deploy if the need arose”, he said.

“Unfortunately it didn’t work because the buses got stoned”.

Mr Russell said the low profile presence near the ground had been agreed with the club and local community.

Unfortunately there had been two minutes of trouble in what had been a five-hour policing operation.

“It is regrettable and it should not have happened,” said Mr Russell.

He added: “I have to bear ultimate responsibility and if people felt traumatised by what happened it is only right that I apologise. I think we have let down these people.”

He said they were conducting the debrief to “look back and see how we could have done things differently”.

A small piece of the puzzle had not worked as intended, he said, and it was up to the two clubs whether Linfield would go back to the Brandywell, he said, but added: “We have learned lessons after last night, and if we get the opportunity there will be changes made.”

Trevor Roulston, chairman of the Linfield supporters club described the way they were treated as “a total disgrace”, and questioned where the PSNI had been when they were needed.

“We were assured that we would be in and out of the Brandywell and that security would be good. There were children and young girls in those buses. I’m not blaming Derry City officials and I’m not blaming Derry City fans.”

The outgoing chairman of Derry City and one of the organisers of the match, Jim Roddy slammed the hooligans responsible for the trouble.

“It was a superb night except for two minutes of lunacy last night. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to those poor people who had to go through the intimidation - how they must have felt as these stones rained down on the buses.”

Hooligans banned - 08/02/2005

Source : RED ISSUE

POLICE in Greater Manchester have issued more football banning orders than any other force outside London.

A total of 272 soccer hooligans are currently banned from attending matches at home or abroad under orders issued by GMP.

London has 307 hooligans banned. Cheshire has issued 39 bans, Merseyside 58 and Lancashire 91.

Greater Manchester police said: "There are eight professional football teams in the Greater Manchester area with a significant number of supporters who attend home and away matches.”

"The majority of supporters are genuine football fans, however there are some people who attend matches to cause trouble”.
