8 arrested in Greece for murder of rival football club fan - 07/02/2022
Source : https://www.arabnews.com/
Police in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki on Sunday arrested eight people for the murder of a 19-year-old in an attack connected to football fan rivalry.
Authorities had issued 10 arrest warrants for people, all aged 20-23, allegedly involved in the murder of Thessaloniki resident Alkis Kambanos late last Monday. The 19-year-old died after being stabbed and severely beaten. Two of his friends were also injured in the street attack.
One of the two suspects still at large is known to have fled to neighboring Albania, where his family hails from. Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Lefteris Economou said Sunday extradition procedures will be initiated.
Another suspect, a 23-year-old considered by police to be the ringleader of the group that carried the attack, was arrested earlier in the week and charged with murder and attempted murder.
The victim was a fan of football club Aris, and his attackers supporters of rival club PAOK.
In the wake of the murder, police raided multiple soccer fan clubs in Thessaloniki and the capital Athens. Several weapons were confiscated. Police consider these places venues where attacks on rival club fans are organized and, often, drug sales take place. The killing, in a city which has a heated rivalry between PAOK and Aris, has shocked the country and drew strong condemnation from political leaders.
Police say the intended victims were other Aris supporters, who frequented a nearby restaurant, but that the 11 suspects happened by chance upon Kambanos and his friends on the street and asked them which was their favorite team before attacking them.

Leicester fan banned for life and arrested after 'attacking' Nottingham Forest players - 06/02/2022
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the City Ground, where Championship side Nottingham Forest hosted local rivals Leicester in the FA Cup fourth round
A Leicester supporter has been banned for life by his club and arrested after invading the pitch and appearing to attack a group of Nottingham Forest players during Sunday FA Cup tie between the teams at the City Ground.
The incident happened after Forest captain Joe Worrall scored to give the Championship side a shock 3-0 lead in the 32nd minute. The game was goalless 10 minutes before.
Worrall's goal was scored in front of the away stand at the City Ground and the 25-year-old gestured towards the Leicester fans before sprinting off.
As the defender celebrated with his team-mates - in front of the Forest fans - a travelling supporter sprinted on to the pitch and appeared to throw several punches at the group of players.
The man in question was restrained by stewards just seconds after the incident happened before being hauled away by police officers.
Chief Inspector Neil Williams, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have arrested a man in connection with an incident that took place today (Sunday 6 February) during the first half of the Nottingham Forest and Leicester City FA cup match.
In a separate incident, a group of supporters were filmed attacking a pub in Nottingham city centre before the cup tie, throwing chairs and tables at windows.

Greece: Culprits break the hooligan omerta - 08/02/2022
Source : https://www.ekathimerini.com/
Eight more arrests made for last week’s murder of 19-year-old, police seeking another two suspects
Court sources stated on Monday that the soccer hooligans arrested in connection with the murder last week of 19-year-old Alkis Kambanos are breaking their silence about what happened on that fateful night, giving investigators a better understanding of how the event unfolded.
Indicatively, police sources said Monday that they “have a clear picture of who did what.”
The additional eight young people who were arrested on Sunday night in Thessaloniki will reportedly start appearing before a prosecutor Wednesday until Friday.
The arrests were made on the basis of warrants issued by the investigating authorities on Sunday morning. They face prosecutions for one homicide and two attempted murders.
They appeared before an investigative magistrate on Monday and were given a deadline to prepare their defense.
They are seven Greeks and an Albanian citizen, aged between 19 and 22, who were identified as participants in the deadly attack in the Harilaou district shortly after midnight last Monday.
Three more people have been identified for the same case, including a 23-year-old man of Albanian origin who was arrested last Wednesday, as well as two others who have so far eluded arrest. One of the latter, a 20-year-old, is said to have fled to Albania just a day after the murder, and an international arrest warrant has been issued.
The second individual that police are looking for is a 20-year-old Greek who, unlike the others, lives in Athens.
All those implicated are fans of the PAOK soccer club of Thessaloniki and members of various fan associations.
Six of the eight arrested on Sunday have had run-ins with the law in the past, related to the possession of illegal weapons, causing damage and public disturbance, and incidents at stadiums.
The 23-year-old who was arrested on Wednesday and the other man who managed to escape to Albania had attacked two Aris fans in March, 2019, at the same location where Kambanos was murdered.
The 23-year-old was identified as the person who hit Kambanos on the head with a crowbar. Moreover the fingerprints of another among those arrested on Sunday were found on the knife that dealt the fatal blow to Kambanos’ thigh, hitting an artery and causing him to bleed to death.

Nottingham pubs count the cost of damage after Leicester City fans' violence - 08/02/2022
Source : https://www.nottinghampost.com/
Pub owners have been left counting the cost of damage after a Leicester City mob went on the rampage hours before the side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest.
Tables, chairs and bottles were hurled at the windows of two Nottingham city centre pubs, while a smoke bomb was let off in the street.
Children were in tears after a violent attack on Fat Cat bar in Chapel Bar where families were having Sunday lunch around 12.15pm.
Harry Kohil, owner of Fat Cat, said: "The pub was busy with all the families we normally have on Sundays.
"It's uncalled for. They just walked past and started smashing the pub for no reason. I feel it was unnecessary to do what they did, whether they were football fans or hooligans.
"We've never had any trouble like this before. It's a family pub - it's got nothing to do with sports whatsoever.
"We are assessing the damage at the minute, finding out how much it's going to cost us. We've had a phone call with our insurers and are just waiting to hear back from them. They are fully aware of it as it was big news yesterday across everywhere.
The bar doesn't open on Mondays and Mr Kohil said it's likely to remain closed for the next two or three days.
"The last two years we've had in the industry [due to Covid], it's quite scary. We are glad there was no physical damage to our staff or our customers."
Mason Donn, a 29-year-old builder from Wilford, who was inside Fat Cat at the time said: "It was horrible.
"They launched chairs, bottles and tables at the windows.
“There were families inside, children crying. There were women, pensioners, families - just horrendous.
“They picked on a venue where it was quiet just to make a scene."
Three people suffered minor injuries outside the bar.
Violence erupted before the 4pm kick-off of the fourth round FA Cup match in which Leicester suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Forest.
In a second attack, pub staff at the Cross Keys, in Byard Lane, went outside to see off yobs who hurled tables and chairs at the windows at 3.20pm.
The crowd left after police dog handlers turned up at the scene.
Staff at at the pub didn't want to be interviewed but a spokesman for pub owners Great Northern Group said: "We're very disappointed in the behaviour of some Leicester City fans passing by the venue yesterday afternoon.
"Furniture was damaged and three windows smashed. The management and staff on duty acted on instinct and were incredibly brave and diffused the incident in a cool and calm manner showing professionalism and excellent de-escalation skills and we're incredibly proud of them.
"The venue was full of families enjoying our popular Sunday roast dinner service at the time and were shaken by the experience but did help the staff clear up and we're very grateful for that"
The pub is open today as usual.
Leicester City fans were denied entry to the Canalhouse, in Canal Street, after a smoke bomb was let off in the street.
Manager Wayne Harvey said: "The police had taken Leicester fans along the canal-side as they know venues along here are usually away-friendly. It must have been about 11.45am and we hadn't opened, we were just observing fans outside.

Greece: Police compile ‘black list’ of hooligans - 08/02/2022
Source : https://www.ekathimerini.com/
As the dark side of sports-related violence came to the fore again last week in the most tragic way with the murder of 19-year-old Alkis Kambanos in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, the Hellenic Police has launched a sweeping crackdown across the country, with reports saying it has compiled a list of 300 hooligans in Attica alone that it has its eye on.
These 300 hardcore fans of the capital’s biggest teams have already been questioned over a period between September until now for various activities, with 150 of them arrested for participating in sports-related incidents, the possession of weapons and other crimes.
A police source told Kathimerini that 30% are minors, “and the rest are between 20 and 30 years old.”
Police also note that extremist elements are active among these groups. For instance, a social media account maintained by a nationalist organization has a photo published against the backdrop of Panathinaikos’ Gate 13, in which hooded men hold banners reading: “There is only one solution to Turkish provocations, reaching the borders of Asia Minor – Solidarity with the Army.”
In another supporters’ account, a caption under a photo of AEK hooligans waving Molotov cocktails and wearing gas masks reads: “AEK, violence, terrorism.”
Although last week’s murder may have shocked Greek society, experts monitoring sports-related hooliganism on and off the field say it came as no surprise. “We have been seeing a qualitative leap in the activities of hooligans with the use of knives lately,” a senior ranking Attica police officer said in comments to Kathimerini, noting a series of incidents during the last three months.
On November 24, for example, on the sidelines of a Panathinaikos women’s volleyball match against Czech Ostrava in Maroussi, police arrested some 57 fans of the Athens club who were in possession of knives, screwdrivers, small axes, corkscrews, hammers and other items that could cause physical harm.
On January 15, on the sidelines of an Apollon-Aris soccer match, 87 fans of the host team were brought in and 15 of them were arrested. They were also found to be carrying small axes, knives, screwdrivers, Molotov cocktails, bats, helmets, etc.
“They turn up to fight with fans of rival groups and then post photos on their social media accounts, mainly on Instagram,” said a police source.

Footballers brutally beaten following minute silence for Alkis’ murder
Three football players were injured and a coach was treated for severe rib fractures after a horrific brawl in the A1 of Halkidiki local championship – the irony is that the football match started with a minute of silence for the murder of Alkis by PAOK fans.
The match was interrupted in the 75th minute due to clashes between the players of both teams.
As seen in the video, this was followed by a pitch invasion.
The coach of AS Anthemous Galatista, Giannis Kartas, had to be hospitalised with severe fractures in the body and face which were caused by the hooligans savage blows.
“It was a cowardly and unjustified attack against our coach and our three football players,” the president of AS Anthemous Galatista, Nikos Koutziaris, told Proto Thema.
According to the outlet, the prosecutor has already intervened.
This latest incident comes only days after Alkis Kambanos, a 19-year-old student and Aris fan, was murdered in an incident involving hooligans from a rival club.
Police arrested a man in connection with the incident after he was identified by one of the victims.
The accused is a member of the Palaion Patron Germanou Street PAOK fan club and has a history of violence-related offenses, including charges of assault with a bladed weapon in 2019 near the scene of the recent murder.
Fans of Thessaloniki side Aris hoisted banners paying tribute to Alkis in their home grounds, two days after he was murdered.
Vice-Prosecutor of Areios Pagos, Greece’s supreme court, Zacharias Kokkinakis, sent a notification to the country’s court of first instance prosecutors on Friday, urging for their vigilance in the prevention and drastic tackling of crimes deriving from sports violence.

Italy: Ostiamare - Giugliano - 06/02/2022

Troubles in Ostiamare-Giugliano, 5 months for a fans already under Daspo
Ostia: A 31-year-old Ostiamare supporter, who was arrested yesterday following clashes with opposing Giugliano supporters, was sentenced this morning to a direct five-month suspended sentence. For the young man, a Daspo provision was already underway, that is to say a ban on access to sporting events.
A supporter of Ostia admits that he could not resist not going to the stadium: the 31-year-old supporter was given a 5-month suspended sentence.
This was confirmed this morning by authorities the supporter of Ostiamare, 31, who attended yesterday, despite the ban on access to sporting events, the Ostiamare-Giugliano match, valid for the 19th day of the Serie D championship, and following which violent clashes occurred between the two supporters.
The police patrols of the Lido Commissariat had to intervene at the end of the match between via Cristoforo Colombo and viale della Villa di Plinio, where the fans of Ostiamare fought with the supporters of the opposing team.
The police had identified all the participants in the clashes, and among them a fan of Ostiamare was also arrested on whom a Daspo had already been placed, leading to a ban on access to sporting events. The 31-year-old was later arrested, and today he was given a suspended five-month sentence.

Bolton Wanderers issue banning orders to 14 supporters after 'disorder and anti-social behaviour' - 09/02/2022
Source : https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/
Eight were issued following incidents at the Morecambe game, with four coming from the Cambridge match and two from the Sunderland fixture.
The club also confirmed that these numbers are “set to rise in the coming weeks” following further investigations in partnership with Greater Manchester Police.
Wanderers have now issued over 30 banning orders this season, while there are also currently 48 police-enforced national bans in place relating to Bolton supporters.
