England : The Far-Right Are Planning to Defend Statues from BLM Protesters - 06/06/2020
Source : https://www.vice.com/
On Saturday, London will be flooded by football firms and far-right demonstrators who are upset that statues of racists are being torn down.
Following the toppling of a number of statues of slave owners this week, and with further Black Lives Matter protests announced for the weekend, far-right activists and racist football hooligans are planning to head to the capital to defend London's statues and monuments. Police have warned that this could lead to confrontations.
Britain's far-right are furious that monuments of dead racists have been defaced and knocked down. The week started with a video of far-right agitator Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) blowing a gasket in a video rant against the BLM movement. Robinson signed off by encouraging his supporters to head to London on Saturday to defend monuments from protesters.
Other far-right groups have also vowed to show up to defend statues and monuments. A particular source of anger is the defacement of the Cenotaph, which happened twice last week. Ditto the defacement of the Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square, which was graffitied with the words, "[Churchill] was a racist."
The Democratic Football Lads Alliance (DFLA) is playing a key role in organising the protests. The DFLA is a group that split from the Football Lads Alliance (FLA), an anti-extremism organisation that emerged in the wake of terrorist attacks in 2017, and quickly shifted politically to the far-right. The FLA's early demonstrations and anti-terrorism message attracted tens of thousands of demonstrators to central London.
According to anti-extremism research group Hope Not Hate, football fans attending will mostly come from London firms, "including those from Chelsea, Spurs, Millwall, West Ham, Charlton, Arsenal and QPR. Other gangs are making plans to join them, including hooligans from Portsmouth, Everton, Stoke, Colchester, Southend, Bristol, Coventry, Plymouth, Exeter, Swindon, Newcastle and Sunderland."
The far-right's defence of statues of racists has already spilled over into racist provocations against BLM protesters. In Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, Black Lives Matter protesters faced disgusting racist abuse from a group of counter-protesters who turned up to defend the town's war memorial. BLM protesters were asked, "Why don't you go back to Africa then?" by one counter-protester. Similarly, in Plymouth, Devon, BLM protesters were faced with racist abuse from counter-protesters who were defending the statue. There was an angry stand-off in London on Sunday between BLM protesters and a group of men defending the Churchill statue in Parliament Square, before it was later defaced.
On Tuesday, a Black Lives Matter protest was announced for Saturday at Hyde Park in London. The head of the Metropolitan Police Federation, Ken Marsh, told the Times, "We have got the perfect storm ahead of us this weekend, we have got planned protests and now Tommy Robinson and his agitators."

England : Police launch investigation after angry crowd of Coventry City football fans pelt two black men with bottles - 09/06/2020
Police are investigating after two black men were chased through a city centre and pelted with bottles by an angry crowd in shocking social media footage.
The pair were cornered behind some bins and had missiles and abuse hurled at them in the heart of Coventry on Tuesday night.
In the shocking footage the victims are seen being protected by police officers who shouted 'get back!' at the crowd, many of whom are wearing Coventry City shirts celebrating their team's promotion.
The supporters claimed the young men were armed with knives - but police found no weapons when they searched them.
West Midlands Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: 'We need the public's help to establish the complete circumstances around what happened.
'The footage we've seen so far shows our officers moving in to protect two young men who were the target of a violent attack from a large crowd.
'Those officers put themselves in harm's way − in the face of bricks and bottles being thrown at them − in order to protect those two men and prevent the situation from escalating.
'The officers were acting on information the two men may earlier have been in possession of a knife or knives. Given that information, one of the men was handcuffed while they were both searched.
'They were not found in possession of any offensive weapons, they were not arrested, so our officers again escorted them away from the crowd in order to keep them safe.'
West Midlands Police said they are now investigating whether a hate crime had taken place and will 'take action against offenders'.
'We will be carrying out a thorough investigation into the disorder and claims the two men were earlier armed with a knife. We are also investigating claims that some of the crowd were in possession of weapons.
'This kind of violence will not be tolerated in our city and we will take robust action against offenders.'
Coventry Stand up to Racism (SutR) called for the 'immediate arrests and charging' of those responsible for the disorder after the bottles and missiles were thrown.
The incident, which happened on Tuesday night, followed Coventry City's promotion to the Championship after League One teams voted to end the league season.
The club said they were aware of the videos on social media and had passed reports to the police and would liaise directly with them regarding the matter.
They added: 'CCFC are clear and long-standing in our anti-racism and discrimination stance and our support for Kick It Out – both shown most clearly in our 2 Tone shirt this season – and more recently the Black Lives Matter campaign.
'Coventry is a diverse and multi-cultural City, and we are proud to represent it and all of its people.'

England : Tensions flare as far-right thugs and football hooligans front up to riot police at Cenotaph - 13/06/2020
Source : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/
Hundreds of hooligans have rushed up to the police blockade outside the Cenotaph during a fierce counter-protest at today's Black Lives Matter rally in London.
Riot squads armed with batons and shields are holding a line in the middle of Westminster to prevent the two groups from clashing.
Crowds of pro-statue campaigners surrounded the monument of Winston Churchill, which has been boarded up by Sadiq Khan for fear of it becoming a 'flashpoint' of far-right violence.
Some of the demonstration peeled off down Whitehall and marched right up to the police barrier, which some tried to clamber over.

England : 100 arrested as thugs clash with riot police and BLM - 14/06/2020
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
After far-right demonstrators attacked police with bottles and smoke bombs, thugs clashed with Black Lives Matter supporters in Trafalgar Square and at Waterloo station, leaving several people bloodied
Violent clashes erupted between thugs and Black Lives Matter protesters in central London after police were attacked during a far-right gathering.
More than 100 people were arrested and about 20 were treated for injuries that resulted from violence which was condemned by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Labour leader Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Priti Patel.
Several people were covered in blood following fights in Trafalgar Square and outside Waterloo station, where baton-wielding riot officers tried to keep the two groups apart.
The clashes came after hooligans attacked riot police with smoke grenades and missiles and assaulted journalists as officers tried to contain a far-right protest that groups claimed was intended to protect statues and memorials.
During the far-right gathering, a man was seen urinating next to a memorial for Westminster terror attack victim PC Keith Palmer, sparking outrage and a police investigation.

Celtic Glasgow : Green Brigade kettled by police at Glasgow anti-racism demo - 20/06/2020
Source : https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/
The Celtic football ultras joined hundreds of anti-racism protesters gathered in George Square.
Green Brigade football ultras were kettled by police in George Square as they attended a Glasgow Says No to Racism event.
The left-wing Celtic supporters' group joined hundreds of anti-racism protesters gathered at the demonstration in Glasgow city centre despite people being warned by police to stay away due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers said the Glasgow Says No to Racism event was aimed at "sending a positive anti-racist message from Glasgow's George Square to the world on World Refugee Day".
Supporters included Stand Up To Racism, Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees, Positive Action in Housing, Afghan Human Rights Foundation, trade unions as well as the Green Brigade fans' group.
More than 500 people attended the rally, with stewards asking them to stick to social distancing guidelines by following markings on the square.
They had also been asked to wear masks and not to travel farther than public health advice allows.
Police vans lined the square, with more than 100 officers in attendance, including riot police and mounted officers.
Police horses and riot officers were used to control the Green Brigade's arrival in the square and when the event ended around noon they were kettled before being moved through the city, controlled by police horses and scores of officers.
The group were escorted to the Saltmarket area before dispersing.
