Avangard Kursk - Salut Belgorod - ??/07/2003

Source: Belgorod lads version

When our bus appeared in the suburbs of the city, we saw some of the Kursk lads
running from the forest and throwing stones. Our bus stopped and stone throwers
ran to the trees, then we saw their main mob in 100-200 meters from us.

Quickly we left the bus and saw Kursk lads across the road. We thought that it
was a rather big crowd, but later we saw that they brought only about 30-35
hools (we had 36). Fight was stretched for all width of road, some fighters
have already received traumas. Some of the drivers were shocked and stopped
their cars.

Second part of the fight... everybody is tired, somebody fall on the road and
cant stand up. Soon police cars appeared and Kursk hools preferred to dissapear.
Policemen hÁve developed our bus to Belgorod cos they didnt t want some troubles
in the center of Kursk and unfortunately we didnt t visit match.

Partizan Belgrade-Dinamo Zagreb - Friendly match played in Switzerland - 17/07/2003

Source: Reuters

The final of a Swiss friendly tournament between Dinamo Zagreb and Partizan Belgrade was abandoned when rival fans fought on the pitch, police said on Thursday.
Referee Carlo Bertolini was forced to abandon Wednesday's game after 68 minutes with Dinamo leading 2-0 in the final of the four-team tournament in Kriens, near Lucerne.
The Lucerne police department said Zagreb fans spilled on to the pitch when Ivica Olic taunted Belgrade supporters after scoring the second goal.
'This was a nasty experience,' said Partizan's Ivica Iliev. 'I didn't see the whole incident but my team mates said it was a fierce fight and I hope no one got killed in it.'
More than 200 police officers were deployed to keep the two sets of supporters apart and peace was eventually restored.
'The Zagreb fans went on to the playing field and the fans of Belgrade were provoked,' the Lucerne police said. 'The referee then stopped the game.'
One supporter was taken to hospital in Lucerne after collapsing on the pitch. Ten arrests were made before the game after police stopped skirmishes around the Kleinfeld Stadium.
Local media reports said both sets of players and Belgrade coach Lothar Matthaeus were involved in scuffles during the final.
Dinamo vice-president Zdravko Mamic was quoted by the Croatian daily Vjesnik as saying: 'Inappropriate behaviour of some individuals cannot be justified, but this was also a big failure of the organisers.'
European soccer's governing body UEFA said it would not take action against either of the two teams because the tournament was not a UEFA-sanctioned competition.
'We will not be taking any action because it does not fall under our jurisdiction,' a UEFA spokesman said.
FIFA rules state that 'disciplinary measures relating to friendly matches come under the jurisdiction of the national association to which the club to be sanctioned belongs'.
Swiss sides Kriens and Lucerne were the other two teams taking part in the tournament.

Lille OSC - RSC Charleroi - Friendly game - 12/07/2003

Source: La voix du Nord

Yesterday during the journey, violent clashes erupted in front of a pub, called 'Le Globe'. About 50 young fans from Lille and Charleroi fought together, using chairs and tables.
"We had 30 people who were drinking in our pub when someone said they were coming", said the barman. 'Their' attacked the pub, using chairs, tables, flowers...
Fight took place for 5 minutes before special french cops arrived on the place. Three policemen were in front of...50 thugs. Many other policemen arrived. No injured were noticed but 11 French and one Belgian were arrested. All of them will apperead in front of a Court the 30th July.

Source: mail - Charleroi lad version

For this friendly game played in France, CH-lads had a small mob of approx 25 boys.
It must be noticed than some years ago, violent clashes erupted between both sides.
Arrived in the city-centre, visitors saw the local mob (30 as they said on phone calls) and locals started to threw chairs and tables...Belgian continued their march on and locals made a run and/or were beaten up. Only some of them stayed their ground (respect).
Policemen tried to restore order and some lads were arrested.

Oxford United - Tottenham Hotspurs - Friendly match played in Swindon - 22/07/2003

Source: In the Know website

From a Swindon Town fan:

Was at the Kassam Stadium yesterday for the Oxford vs Tottenham pre-season friendly. Oxford lost 3-0 and were absolute shite, Kept very quiet during the 'We Hate Swindon', the 'we beat the Scum 1-0' and 'Stand up if you hate Swindon' chants. The game wasnt great and the smell from the neighbouring sewage farm was came wafting into the ground, I also didnt realise how pikey alot of Oxford fans were, thought Oxford prided themselves on being classy.
The game was a friendly so Oxford clearly didnt want to spend money on policing the game, so there was just 3 police on duty 3 ! well that's all I saw, anyway 20 minutes into the game a group of around 10 Spurs who had come into the Oxford end and had kept quiet up until then unvieled a St Georges cross with 'South London Yids' & 'who let the yids out' written accross it, they began chanting 'YIDS YIDS YIDS', the Stewards came in and got them out but a few Oxford had already made there way to the front of the stand to greet them as they came down, wasnt that many hit squad there and If they were there they were reluctant to get involved in the ground because of CCTV.
Anyway these 10 Spurs lads are on the pitch giving it the come on but are ushered back to the the Tottenham stand, seconds later 30 -40 Spurs lads left there seats and started walking down the side of the pitch at Oxford, decent stand off lot's of lip but never got too nasty unfortunately. After the game in the Priory pub (?) behind car park it went off royal fucking brilliant to see !.
Made a refreshing change, in fairness it was Spurs that whipped it all up but it made quite a boring one sided match on the pitch a little more exciting.

Beerschot - Stoke City - Friendly game - 22/07/2003

Source: Stoke Under 5's forum

The younger elements of the contingency had it twice with mobs of turks last night. At one stage 60 turks rolled up at a boozer where the lads were located.
Not sure of Stoke numbers but it weren't many, so safe to assume turks done their usual trick of cowardly tactics.
Stoke held em off well, OB turned up and what should have been a battering turned out to be kept well tight by the smaller Stoke numbers.
All lads at the game now, might be more fun and games later tonight.

Inquiry after football fans clash - 28/07/2003

Source: BBC

Investigations are continuing into how a mass-brawl between rival football fans was allowed to break out at Newcastle Central Station, despite a high police presence.
Fighting spilled out across the station after Newcastle fans confronted Sunderland supporters as they arrived back from a match in Edinburgh at 2100 BST on Saturday.
The police had been alerted to the possibility of trouble, and although a team of officers was sent to the station, they could not stop the violence.
A nearby bar was damaged during the fighting and five people were arrested.
Police officers refused to confirm how many people were involved but eyewitness reports suggest it may have been up to 100.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "A group of Sunderland fans, believed to be returning from the Hibs V Sunderland game got off at Newcastle Central Station and became involved in a confrontation in the Central Station area with a rival group of Newcastle fans.
"Police attending the scene arrested five males for public order and criminal damage offences.
"Enquiries into the incident are continuing."

Source: On the march forum - Newcastle view

Was up there yesterday with SC.
Fair play to Sunderland they took a massive mob of 100+ top boys to Edinburgh. We were in a boozer on the edge of town and 100 top makems were walking through Edinburgh, they had the total run of the place.
Dont think Hibs were expecting that much from Sunderland and never turned out many lads.
Went off in Hotel Bar, makems stormed the doors, bout 20 Hibs inside smashed them with bottles, glasses etc, and some sunderland went down and took to hospital, 5 arrests aswell.
Was talking to Sunderland top boys and they were saying that its the best mob they've turned out for years, and couldnt beleive the top mob in Scotland hadnt turned out.
The gremlins were waiting back in Newcastle for sunderland to come back, sunderland broke the escort and it kicked off, dont know who come out on top cos I wasnt there but from what Ive heard nothing major.

Bradford City - Aberdeen - Friendly game - 25/07/2003

Source: In the Know website

Old bill made an unforgivable fuck up after match. Aberdeen and Bradford clashed in town centre with two old bill trying to keep 100+ lads apart until reinforcements arrived. Old bill unsurprisingly heavy handed. Both firms gained and lost ground before the Yorkshire Constabulary took control…

************************************************************

Source: BBC

Bradford City's Centenary Tournament was marred by violence after scores of Bantams and Aberdeen fans clashed on the city's streets.
Fifteen people were arrested after about 100 fans fought in Ivegate following the two clubs' matches on the first day of the tournament on Saturday.
The Bradford Arms pub in Manningham Lane also saw violence as more than 20 fans of the two clubs brawled at 3pm.
The trouble in the city centre followed City's 4-2 win over Coleraine and Aber-deen's 2-0 victory over Swansea.
Chief Superintendent Dave Lunn, of Bradford South Police, today said despite the number of people involved in the Ivegate disorder there had been little damage to property.
Chief Supt Lunn said officers acted quickly to subdue the trouble and no officers had been injured breaking up the fighting.
He said no weapons were used and that no one involved in the fighting required hospital treatment.
"There were two outbreaks of disorder involving so-called football fans on Saturday," he said. "We made a number of arrests of people from Aberdeen and Bradford. Police officers were quickly deployed to deal with both incidents and both of them were quickly brought under control."
The Telegraph & Argus reported last month how Aberdeen FC's operations manager John Morgan had warned that 30 or 40 Aberdeen hooligans, known as the Aberdeen Casuals, had planned to travel to the tournament.
Chief Supt Lunn said the fighting in Ivegate had been caught on CCTV cameras and would be examined to try to track down other people involved in the fracas.
"We have some excellent police evidence as we also had officers filming the trouble," he said. "We will be following up these disturbances and I would ask anyone involved in the trouble to give themselves up before we come knocking at their door."
Aberdeen's operations manager John Morgan said: "We're very disappointed because we asked these people to stay away from what was a family event. We will wait to see the police's report on the trouble before deciding if the club will take further action."
There was no further violence following Aberdeen's 5-4 victory on penalties against City in the tournament's final yesterday. People with information about the disorder should telephone Crimestoppers

SK Lierse - SC Heerenveen - 26/07/2003

Source: mail - Lierse lad view

Normally this match should be an example of good behaviour and pure fun because there are no known mob's in Heereveen. They are known as the best supporters in the whole of the Netherlands. But that turned out a little bit different. It all started round noon when Heereveen scarfers started to peacefully take over one of the favourite pubs of the Lierse youth's. Lots of young lads were very offended by these dutch people and their presence, so they started to clean there pub out with the necessary violence. Heereveen scarfers started to throw glasses but soon surrendered because of the great presence of the Lierse Pallieter Casuals. That was the start of what could be a great evening. As the match started you could see in the eyes of the youthly casuals they expected a lot from the match. The chants towards Heereveen supporters like "hoereveen" were very loudly chanted by the whole stand. During half time some drunken scarfers of Heereveen started to act stupid behind the gates. But before we could act stewards allready removed de scarfers from the spot so it was back to the beer for us. At the end fase of the game the ref lost control over the match because he gave two times yellow to a Heereveen player but that player wasn't send of because the first time he got yellow the ref put 8 on his paper instead of 6. And then de linesman called the ref to give a Lierse player a red card who didn't do anything. That was the last drop for the Lierse mob. Some 40-50 lads left the stand and ran to the dug out towards the linesman. Sheered to by there kop and many people in the headstand the lads wanted to do a pitch invasion but wisely got of the headstand and did't do a pitch invasion because they didn't want the club to get heavy fined and most of al they didn't want to lose there toplads on a lowsy intertoto so they left the stadium got in there cars to the street where most of Lier's pubs are situated. The lads knew when Heereveen would come in which pub they would go so they hide themselves in that pub and in the friesbar in front of that pub. An half hour later 15 Heereveen supps entered the streets with loud cheers and wanted to eneter the bar when the lads in the bar didn't let them through. The drunken scarfers started to say things like "i'm going to demolish you" so the fight began: the lads in the friesbar stormed out and assisted there fellow lads. But the fight was quickly over because the bouncers of the others bars started to mingle in the fight and got between Lier and Heereveen. The Heereveen scarfers then left in a taxi for Antwerp. That was also the end of what could be a great fight. But instead it was of to the beer again Clin d'oeil. could these be the beginning of something big in lier?!

Owls hooligans face bans - 17/07/2003

Source: BBC

Sheffield Wednesday have vowed to ban supporters involved in trouble that flared after the friendly win over Doncaster on Tuesday.
A section of fans were reported to have been involved in "incidents" in Doncaster town centre following the game at Belle Vue.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Sheffield Wednesday will ban from Hillsborough any supporters who are proven to have been involved in incidents that are reported to have occurred in Doncaster town centre on Tuesday."

Owls boss Chris Turner condemned those involved, saying: "I am trying to build a successful team for our fans to support, and incidents of this nature only do harm to our cause.

"We don't want football hooliganism to be associated with Sheffield Wednesday when the overwhelming majority of our fans are tremendous supporters."

CASUALS AND GREMLINS SET FOR FURTHER TROUBLE

There was trouble on Saturday night between Newcastle and Sunderland fans in Central Station, and rumour has it the city of Sunderland is next. The Mackems were returning from Edinburgh where they had played Hibs, but the clash was planned days before.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CASUALS AND GREMLINS CLASH IN CENTRAL STATION

There was trouble on Saturday night between Newcastle and Sunderland fans in Central Station, and rumour has it the city of Sunderland is next. The Mackems were returning from Edinburgh where they had played Hibs, but the clash was planned days before.

It was hardly a secret, and there was talk in the city all day that there was going to be a 'welcoming party' at Central Station, but it did seem to catch the police off guard.

Fights broke out in The Centurion Bar between gangs of hooligans and it was said there was also trouble in a couple of other bars outside the train station.

Police were waiting to escort the fans off the train and to the Metro but the Gremlins were waiting at around 9pm.

Manager of the Centurion, Tracey Vicreck: "We didn't get any advance warning. The first I knew about it was when I asked why there were so many police outside the bar.

"They said a train was due in at 9pm with Sunderland fans on it. We saw them get off the train but a group of Gremlins were waiting for them and began shouting and swearing at them.

"The police tried to get the Sunderland fans around the side and into the Metro but you could see they were winding each other up and were just dying to get at each other like a pack of animals.

"They managed to break free and the two groups went at each other right in the middle of the pub.

"It was terrifying. The pub was crowded with about 400 punters and these yobs just began flying at each other. Glasses were going everywhere and they were using bar stools to smash things up.

"It was absolute mayhem. We had young staff who'd never dealt with anything like this before. There was one couple who had been waiting to pick their daughter up from the train. She was so traumatised that we let her and her parents stay in the snug until everything clamed down."

Tracey closed the bar at 9.20pm and re-opened again for the remainder of the night about half an hour later.

British Transport Police estimate up to 150 people were involved in the fighting. Four people, from Sunderland and South Shields, have been arrested in connection with the brawl for public order and criminal damages offence.

A message on the Sunderland Seaburn Casuals site on Saturday night, wrote: "What a day! What a turnout! If Sunderland can get numbers like that more often then no one can touch us!

"Keep it up lads. This was a great day with SAFC untouchable off the pitch!

"We showed the Gremlin bottle-throwers how to break police cordons and showed them up in their own backyard.

"Their plan backfired and the Gremlins ran, ran and ran and as far as I know are still running."

The Mackems have to pass through Newcastle to get to their little wooly-back station, so clashes like this are not uncommon. After the IRA set off a bomb in Manchesrer a gang of Casuals, carrying Union flags, arrived in Newcastle and smashed up the Irish bar O'Neils.

But Toon fans going to Sunderland are rare.

Feyenoord Rotterdam - Manchester City - Friendly game - ??/07/2003

Source: casual culture website - Man City view

got back last night
got a text saying that when the city end was shown on tv that it only showed plums but there was a tidy little pocket of known lads
was told to go to a boozer in arrhus called sherlock holmes and the george washington - went in the george washington and 15-20 lads in there and stright away clicked they was not city got shouted out by a mate and saw a few know faces outside at the side of the bar
was told it was feyenords main lads and after seeing them myself i can say they were not mugs
city spread out over the street and came to the entrance to the bar and told feyenord to come outside but did not wanna come outside so a surge forward in the bar by city resulted in 2/3 minutes of throwing everything backwards and forwards but feyenord started to back off and some of there lads did one out of a back entrance to leave a few to get wasted
all in all city smashed them to pieces and while they took a few hits themselves - city whacked a firm of feyenord that was there for a meet and got educated very quickly
lads moved on and old bill turn up 10 mins later
just before the lads moved on the owner of the bar came out and tried asking the lads "you have wrecked my bar so i must ask you to help me clean it up" you can imagine the reply he got LOL
at the stadium again a small exchage outside were you picked tickets up but again was over quickly and again city picked up 1st place
we then went in the ground and watched the game
spoke with some lads later who confirmed that there was 2 more offs during the afternoon that we had missed but was told it was a defo 4-0 city of the pitch
went drinking by the river in arhuss after the game and saw a few feyenord ther but seemed the evening went by without anything else

Uefa sounds England warning - ??/07/2003

Source : BBC

England could be banned from the 2006 World Cup as well as Euro 2004 if hooligans cause trouble in Turkey in October.

That is the warning from Uefa president Lennart Johansson, who said his organisation was "very worried" about the European Championships qualifier in Istanbul on 11 October.
England's Football Association had already been warned that they faced a ban from Euro 2004 if there was a repeat of the scenes which followed the game against Turkey at The Stadium of Light in April.
But Johansson has warned any ban could extend beyond next year's tournament in Portugal.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Johansson said: "We hope nothing happens, but if there are problems then the matter will be discussed at the organising committee of the World Cup and of course for 2004.
"Participation in all the international competitions will have to be reconsidered. Let's hope it doesn't come to that."
Johansson will be in Turkey for the potentially crucial Group Seven qualifier and admitted Uefa fears further trouble.
"We are very worried about the match. We can't ignore certain facts. We have a problem with certain English fans when they travel abroad.
"There is a hooligan element and we have a hooligan element in Turkey."
But Johansson stressed that the Football Association's efforts to avoid trouble had not gone unnoticed.
England are not taking any tickets for the game and Johansson said: "Both sides are working very hard.
Senes Erzik, the Turkish representative on the Fifa executive, added: "I don't like the idea the English FA are not taking up tickets for the match.
"It's a pity. I dislike the closed door solution. But I suppose there was no alternative."
Ezrik added that it was impossible to stop individual England fans travelling to the game without official tickets.
He added: "How can you stop them as long as they have a valid identity?
"I don't want to speculate on what these individuals might do at the match. But in case of trouble we will all be in trouble."

Valiants hope for positive response - 26/07/2003

Source : TEAMtalk

Port Vale have teamed up with local police in a bid to stamp out hooliganism, by urging fans to sign up to the True Supporters Code of Conduct.
Last season Vale followers hit the headlines for the wrong reasons when trouble flared after matches against Wigan and Huddersfield, and recently Vale fan Sean Ratcliffe received a fine and a three-year ban from matches for racist chanting.
However, it is hoped that the new initiative will help rid the club of this damaging image, by reminding fans of the guidelines for appropriate behaviour at football matches.
Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt welcomed the move and appealed to Vale fans to behave next season.
He said: "I'm confident that the vast majority of our followers will endorse every word of this code sending a strong message to hooligans that their behaviour is unwelcome and will not be tolerated."

Landlords fear friendly clashes - 29/07/2003

Source : TEAMtalk

Pub landlords in Hull are calling for Friday's friendly clash between Leeds and the Tigers to be cancelled amid fears of violence.
Last week, the police wrote to around 100 pubs and bars in Hull asking them to close between noon and 8pm on Friday to prevent potential trouble.

And they will go a step further on Tuesday when Superintendent Patrick Geenty presents his case for closing pubs to the city's magistrates. The police also want all off-licenses near The Kingston Communications Stadium not to sell alcohol until 8pm.

But Hull and District Licensed Victuallers Association's Phillip Asquith said: "If the police have information there's going to be a riot in the city, why is this game going ahead?

"Why aren't the police going to Hull City and saying 'stop the game'? It is not as though this is a big cup match or an important league game."

Around 400 police officers will be on duty and Supt Geenty said: "We have a considerable amount of intelligence that the criminal elements intend to disrupt the game."

But he added: "I'm confident the arrangements we have in place, including the closure of licensed premises, will ensure the game will go ahead peacefully."

Hull are hoping to attract a near capacity 25,000 crowd to Friday night's game.

Doncaster vs Sheffield Wedn - 17/07/2003

Source: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk

SOCCER YOBS ON RAMPAGE

FOOTBALL fans rampaged through a town centre pub causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Trouble flared on Tuesday when dozens of supporters were turned away from Doncaster Rovers' pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday and headed to the Hogshead Pub.
General manager Denise Howarth said around 50 Sheffield Wednesday fans charged through the Hallgate pub throwing chairs and tables and smashing a large plasma screen television.
"We have got open windows on the front and they just charged through. I had a girl working with me and she has been very shaken up. She was terrified," she said.
Customer Ian Dickinson told the Free Press he saw the Wednesday fans arrive shortly after Rovers supporters reached the pub.
"Somebody shouted "here they are, get them" and all hell broke loose. It was terrifying. We got down onto the floor but they were still throwing things at each other."
Police in riot gear escorted around 70 Sheffield Wednesday fans to the train station. Four men were arrested. Two were charged with being drunk and disorderly and two others were still in custody yesterday, both on suspicion of violent disorder and one for assault.
A police spokesman said problems arose at the ground as thousands of fans queued to get into the game.
Despite kick-off being delayed, hundreds of frustrated supporters had to be turned away.
More than 50 officers attended the game and police will be holding an urgent meeting with Doncaster Rovers and Doncaster Council's safety committee to discuss the problems that arose.

Football hooligan is jailed for fan death - 17/07/2003

Source : http://www.rossendalefreepress.co.uk

A FOOTBALL hooligan who killed a rival supporter after smashing a pint glass on his head has been sentenced to seven years in youth custody.

Burnley fan Andrew McNee (19) of Osborne Way, Haslingden, denied murder but admitted the manslaughter of Nathan Shaw (17) a Nottingham Forest supporter visiting the town for a Division One match last year.

Preston Crown Court heard how McNee, a member of a group of fans nicknamed the Suicide Youth Squad, struck a fatal blow to the back of Mr Shaw's head with the pint glass, which shattered.

Mr Shaw and his companions, who appeared to have done nothing to provoke trouble, had been for a drink in Yates' Wine Lodge before the match.

Anthony Russell QC, prosecuting, said the pub was a place where groups of Burnley supporters - in particular the Suicide Youth Squad - met before home matches.

The Nottingham Forest supporters were stared at, and remarks were made, like: 'Get out of my f***ing pub'. They decided to leave as the atmosphere became more intimidating.

A confrontation took place between the two groups outside the pub, after which the Forest fans backed off. Mr Shaw put his pint glass in a flowerbed and it was possibly his glass that was used as a weapon.

Closed-circuit television camera stills of the attack were shown to the court.

Mr Russell said: 'Nathan Shaw was slightly behind his friends when the defendant approached and struck him one blow to the back of the head.'

He was taken to hospital but died the next morning.

After striking the blow, McNee was described as 'swaggering', the court heard. He had been the subject of a civil banning order from football matches after trouble in Preston and was deported from Austria following problems after an England match in Vienna.

In a statement read to the court, Mr Shaw's family spoke of their devastation.

His mother Helen said, 'It is incomprehensible to think he would go to a football match with his friends and never return', and called him 'my beautiful son'.

Defence counsel Alistair Webster QC said McNee accepted responsibility for Nathan Shaw's death. He felt genuine contrition and had written a letter to the judge in which he described, 'The darkest day in all my years'.

He also said: 'I just hope one day I can be forgiven by his parents for what has happened.'

Mr Webster said: 'It was one blow intended to hasten Nottingham Forest fans on their way and, perhaps despite some contempt, neither he nor his friends could see the blow would have the serious effect it did.'

The QC added it was hoped that what had happened would cause others to consider what had taken place.

Passing sentence, the judge, Mr Justice Leveson, said Nathan Shaw had been attacked for no other reason than he supported a different football team and visited a pub the defendant and others believed he should have kept away from.

McNee was banned from football games for the maximum 10 years.
