| Police warn derby day troublemakers - 18/09/2009
Source : The Star
POLICE have warned potential troublemakers to stay away from tonight's Sheffield derby match at Bramall Lane. Annual leave has been cancelled and 350 officers will be involved in the huge policing operation which will see them take to the streets around the stadium and patrol the city centre.
The aim is to ensure the safety of Owls and Blades fans and catch any troublemakers.
Superintendent Martin Scothern, who is leading the operation, said today: "We are keen to promote a family atmosphere at both our local stadiums and will not allow anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs into the grounds.
"Fortunately football-related incidents such as public disorder and anti-social behaviour remain isolated in Sheffield on match days and anyone intent on causing trouble is advised to stay away.
"I have to facilitate people going to the event and enjoying themselves and I will take action against anyone who tries to interfere with the safety and comfort of other fans."
Supt Scothern said around 90 known troublemakers were banned from going within five miles of the ground by football banning orders.
He said: "We have already paid them a visit and warned them to keep away. We are talking about a small minority of people trying to spoil things for everyone else."
He said officers would also be on duty after the match to prevent alcohol-fuelled violence moving away from the ground and into the city centre.
Supt Scothern warned traffic would be heavy in the Bramall Lane area and called on fans to use public transport.
He said officers had been working with both football clubs, Sheffield Council, Supertram and the licensing trade for months to provide a safe environment for fans.

Arrests after derby match trouble
Five people have been arrested after trouble flared at the Sheffield derby football match on Friday night.
Police are studying CCTV pictures to identify others involved in disorder at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane ground.
Supt Martin Scothern said: "The match was a tense affair with spontaneous disorder before and after the game.
"The police and club were also disappointed by the behaviour of a minority of fans who engaged in coin throwing during the game."
He said South Yorkshire Police would be seeking banning orders for anyone identified as being involved in the trouble.

| Poland: Brawl in Krakow - 13/09/2009
Source : miasta.gazeta.pl
On Saturday night in Krakow, a brawl between hooligans erupted in a tank station around 2am. Five people were attacked by a dozen others. According to the police, knives and baseball bats were used during the incidents which made two serious injured people. The two men were hospitalized, one of them was always at the hospital Sunday, the other having been returned at home. According to the spokesperson of the police force of Krakow, Anna Armor, which were interviewed by the TV broadcast TVN24, this aggression could have a bond with a preceding brawl between hooligans which had occurred last Monday during which seven vehicles had been degraded with blows of sticks. Knives had been used also and four people had been taken along to the hospital. The police officers had stopped three people, who had refused to cooperate with the agents. During their hearings they had indicated not to know which had attacked them.

| Australia: Adelaide United - Melbourne Victory - 18/09/2009Source: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,,26095151-2682,00.html Ban soccer hooligansVIOLENT and abusive fans at Friday's Adelaide United clash have again had to be brought under control by police, despite pleas by the club for a "family-friendly" game. Dozens of police - including mounted patrols - were forced to evict aggressive and disruptive supporters throughout the game against fierce rival Melbourne Victory. And arrests were made after a fight broke out at half-time in the Melbourne supporter section. Flares were set off and the abuse continued as the crowd made its way from Hindmarsh Stadium after Adelaide's 2-0 loss. In one, a group dances around a flare while singing, "F . . . off, you faggots", and another shows the crowd yelling, "We hate you 'cause you're Victorian". The ugly scenes led to calls by soccer fans to ban hooligans. Port Adelaide Detective-Chief Inspector Brian Smith said police evicted 29 people from the ground, 20 of whom were Melbourne supporters. "For the most part, the crowd was very well behaved, with the exception of a few supporters," he said. "Three people were arrested and CCTV footage will be reviewed to identify any other people involved." Among those was a 21-year-old Ingle Farm man who was charged with disorderly behaviour. A total of 30 people were barred from the stadium - all but nine were from interstate. The bans range from 72 hours to three months. Adelaide United chief executive officer Sam Ciccarello downplayed the incidents, saying the bad behaviour was the work of a "small minority". "There are certainly a number of individuals from both clubs who are mischief-makers and these misguided individuals have been dealt with," he said. "There were reports of a small number of cups and other missiles being thrown from one area to another. It is regrettable and unfortunate when individuals have a mind to disregard other people's rights to enjoyment. "There is no mob - it is a small number. Certainly there is a heightened passion and vigour in the barracking when we play Melbourne Victory." Mr Ciccarello insisted the trouble was not restricted to one sport. "There are some idiots that unfortunately . . . can't behave themselves," he said. "But it's not sport-specific. It happens whether it's cricket, SANFL or AFL." The controversy came just two days after the club made a public appeal for Adelaide supporters to curb their unruly behaviour at Friday's game. "The club is urging all supporters to cheer as loudly as possible and proudly don their red shirts to help the Reds get over the line on Friday night, but to support in a non-hostile and safe way that is family-friendly and let everyone enjoy the action and the passionate atmosphere that these games bring," a media release said. Fans yesterday took to the internet to express their outrage at the behaviour of the crowd. "To the minority that start this - don't go," one wrote. Another said most of the bad behaviour came from Adelaide fans. "Melbourne fans didn't start much, apart from maybe one who was taken away by a police officer in a van," Scott, of Adelaide, wrote. "But the United fans were pretty ordinary - hundreds of bottles and rocks thrown and not to mention a flare." Others said they would not bring children to Adelaide/Melbourne matches in future. "I was there and the violence was pathetic," Simon, of Mile End, wrote. "I saw Adelaide United fans and Melbourne Victory fans crossing the police lines in bouts of violence. "Unbelievably, in Adelaide, you cannot travel to and attend and travel home safely to a soccer match." Another Adelaide fan called for life bans for soccer hooligans. "Hooliganism is a disgrace and there should be life bans for these idiots," he wrote. Melbourne Victory did not respond to calls from the Sunday Mail. | Serbia: Gay rights marchers receive threats from hooligans - 19/09/2009
Source: Brunei News
Gay rights activists in Serbia have decided to abandon their September 20th Pride Parade for safety reasons.
Prior to the decision, Prime Minister Mirko Cvektovic, spoke to activist leaders to reveal threats that had been received from ultranationalist groups and hooligans, who had said they would attack the procession.
Another location in a large arena was suggested but organisers said it would not be acceptable as Pride parades are a tradition in the main streets of big cities.
They said the that groups on the fringes of society need to be integrated, consequently their message would be lost.
Serbian President Boris Tadic last week promised to protect the hundreds of gay and human rights activists at the planned gay pride parade.
The last public event staged by homosexual activists in Serbia was in 2001.
It ended up in clashes, with dozens of gay activists and policemen injured by nationalists, neo-Nazis, and soccer hooligans.

| "Chief organizer" of attack on French nationals arrested - 19/09/2009
Source: B92
BELGRADE -- The “main organizer” of the attack on French nationals on Thursday, and ten accomplices have been arrested and remanded into custody for a period of 48 hours.
State prosecution spokesperson Tomo Zorić said that 11 people responsible for the brutal attack on the French football fans before the Partizan-Toulouse match on Thursday were arrested.
“It is clear that we will ask for maximum prison sentences depending on the qualifications of the crimes that they will be accused of committing,” Zorić said.
“The prosecution wants to state that it will react severely against all types of violence and endangerment of the security of Serbian citizens, and will do everything to make sure that Belgrade and Serbia are safe places for all Serbian citizens,” he added.
Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that the arrests could continue as the investigation into the attack unfolds.
Dačić said that the police will take measures against all individuals and groups that threaten the safety of Serbian and foreign citizens.
“The state will deal with all who believe that they can scare the state institutions with violence and damage Serbia’s image in the world,” Dačić said.
The government stated that it supports the actions of the Interior Ministry and the arrests that are being made.
The Frenchman beaten most severly in the attack remains in critical condition.

| KRC Genk - RSC Charleroi - 18/09/2009Source: mail (thanks to the sender) - Charleroi view Two years ago both mobs agreed for an off 20 vs 20. Genkies came with the double of lads and with belts, bricks and bottles. For this game, Boys'91 (only youth) announced their venue with approx 25, arriving in the city center at 8pm. About 15 stayed in a pub during the game and others were inside the stadium. At the end of the game, phonecalls exchanged and Genkies knew rivals are 5km far away from the stadium in a carpark. Charleroi waited there for 30 minutes. Nothing...So, we tried to find them and someone (Genk? another team?) said 20 locals are a few meters far away... So, Boys charged them and immediately Genkies ran away. Only 2-3 of them stood their ground. One of the lads who ran away entered his car and tried to escape, driving through visitors but punches were given through the window. It was revenge time and no Genkies came back.

| Shrimps fan get banning order - 18/09/2009
Source : Lancaster Today
A MAN has been given a three-year football banning order and ordered to pay more than £200 after he was arrested at a Morecambe FC match. Nathan Carr, 18, of Kensington Road, Morecambe, was convicted of a Public Order Act offence of using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Lancaster magistrates heard that Carr was seen by officers shouting abuse at Bradford City fans and trying to encourage them to fight after the league fixture between the two teams on April 10. Despite being warned by officers, he continued his behaviour and was arrested by mounted officers.
Carr pleaded guilty to the public order charge but appealed against the banning order.
In addition to the order, he was fined £90 and ordered to pay £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "This was an isolated incident in an otherwise good-natured fixture and Carr's behaviour risked spoiling the event for many people within earshot of his language.
"This sort of mindless attitude is at odds with the vast majority of Morecambe fans whose behaviour is always exemplary and has won praise from various quarters.
"For this reason, it was important to take strong action to send a clear message that this sort of behaviour is not welcome nor will it be tolerated at Morecambe matches.
"Carr is only the sixth Morecambe FC fan to be handed such a ban which is a reflection of the good-natured atmosphere at Morecambe matches."

| FA near violence decision - 20/09/2009Source : Sky Sports West Ham and Millwall set for FA charge after ugly scenesThe FA have confirmed that they expect to announce their findings regarding the violent scenes at Upton Park last month. The League Cup clash between West Ham and Millwall on 25th August was not without controversy as opposing fans clashed both inside and outside the ground. Sections of the home support also invaded the pitch as West Ham grabbed a late equaliser before winning the game 3-1 after extra-time and a man was reported to have been stabbed outside the ground. Both clubs are expect to be charged for the ugly scenes, which sparked fears of a return of football hooliganism in the English game. The FA have since claimed they would push for football stadium life bans to be imposed on fans who could be identified as trouble-causers and have been working in conjunction with both clubs in dealing with the issue. A statement from the FA said: "The FA's extensive investigations into the events at the recent West Ham versus Millwall fixture are drawing to a close. "CCTV footage from approximately 47 cameras inside Upton Park is still being examined along with other lines of enquiry. "Both clubs have co-operated and provided assistance in relation to the enquiry and the FA expects to be in a position to confirm the outcome of the investigation in the coming week. "The FA has also been liaising closely with the Metropolitan Police in connection with the disorder outside the ground, whilst West Ham published photographs in Saturday's match-day programme to assist in the identification process." | |

| Police release new CCTV of Donal MacIntyre attack in East Molesey - 20/09/2009
Source : yourlocalguardian.co.uk
Police have released CCTV images as part of a fresh appeal into the assault on TV personality Donal MacIntyre and his wife in a bar in East Molesey earlier this month.
The incident, a suspected revenge attack for Mr MacIntyre’s television expose on Chelsea football hooligans nine years ago, took place shortly after 11pm on Wednesday, June 17, at Cloud 9 bar in Bridge Road.
Shortly after the attack, Mr MacIntyre told a national newspaper that when he entered the bar, four men shouted “you grass, you snitch” at him.
He said he was then knocked to the ground and his wife was hurt as she attempted to protect him.
Mr MacIntyre and his wife left the scene, but he later collapsed and was taken to hospital.
He suffered a black eye and a cut to his face, while his wife suffered bruising to her face, arms and legs.
The presenter of the BBC series MacIntyre Undercover said he believed the assault was connected to his 2000 investigation into the Chelsea Headhunters hooligan gang, which led to the conviction of five men.
He said: “I’ve had kidnapping threats, been assaulted before, had my car trashed and I’ve had to move many times.
“I’ll take those slings and arrows, but it crosses a line when my wife gets caught in the crossfire.
“They were trying to get me, missed me and then got her.”
Detectives at Staines CID are continuing to carry out an investigation into the assault and are hoping releasing the CCTV images will make any witnesses come forward.
Detective Sergeant Dave Thomas, leading the investigation, said: “This couple were enjoying a night out when they were set upon in a completely unprovoked and cowardly attack.
“The bar and surrounding area were very busy at the time and a number of people must have seen this nasty attack take place. Any information they can provide could prove vital to our ongoing investigation.
“I am asking people to study these images carefully and if they recognise themselves or someone they know then to contact Surrey Police immediately. Police will not tolerate violence of this nature in Surrey and I can assure Molesey residents we are treating this extremely seriously.”
