Troubles broke out Saturday night after this derby game opposing Grasshopper to FC Zurich. Supporters of FCZ fronted police, who tried to avoid any toe-to-toe between both sides of fans. One policeman was slightly injured. Following these events, several vehicles, including police ones, were damaged. Police used flash-balls and pepper sprays.

| Arsenal FC - Manchester City - 12/09/2009Source : The Sun Adebayor’s goal sparked 'riot'A STEWARD was left unconscious for five minutes after Emmanuel Adebayor's goal celebration caused a "horrific" mini-riot at Eastlands, it emerged today. The Manchester City striker ran the length of the field to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans yesterday after scoring the third in City's 4-2 win over his former club. The police slammed Adebayor for his actions and further censure from the FA is sure to follow. A police spokeswoman said: "A player in a goal celebration caused the opposition fans to be aggravated. "There was a crowd surge. An object has been thrown and caught a steward and knocked him out. We have not arrested anyone for that." The steward had to be given medical attention by the pitch and was taken to hospital and has now been discharged. While the police said they will not take any action against Adebayor and will leave it to the FA, they were heavily critical of the player. The spokeswoman said: "It's down to the club, ground security and FA whether they want to take the incident any further. "It must have been quite horrific for the stewards at the time. "It was the not the player throwing the missile but the fans were reacting to him and his celebration. "Arsenal fans were throwing the missiles but it is a Manchester City player who was doing the celebrating. Either club must decide with the FA if they want to take it any further." There were six arrests after the match, two for drunk and disorderly, two public order offences, one section 39 assault (not in relation to steward) and one for possession of drugs. | |

| Fans’ pictures kept by police for 10 years - 13/09/2009
Source : WalesOnline
INNOCENT football fans not convicted of any crimes are having their pictures held by police for up to 10 years, WoS can reveal.
South Wales Police have photos or video footage of 150 supporters of the nation’s two biggest clubs, Cardiff City and Swansea City, and hold them on file for up to a decade in case they later commit violence at matches.
The force believe the fans pose an “active risk” – meaning they are often spotted hanging around the scene of disorder inside and outside grounds, perhaps shouting and gesturing, but not fighting or throwing missiles.
Crucially, they have not been convicted of any football related-offences.
The force hold 210 photographs of banned fans – meaning officers policing matches can pick out hooligans breaching banning orders.
But police admitted they were also considering applying for banning orders against 57 fans separate from any criminal proceedings – suggesting the supporters have not been convicted of offences.
The figures were uncovered in a Freedom of Information request by Plaid Cymru whose prospective parliamentary candidate for Pontypridd, Bluebirds season-ticket holder Ioan Bellin, said: “I welcome the close attention the police are paying to individuals who are not real football fans, but who set out to cause trouble inside and outside grounds.”
Phil Sumbler, of Swansea City Supporters’ Trust, said if police had enough evidence of wrongdoing to justify holding fans’ pictures, they should look to charge them as soon as possible.
He added: “If they are innocent fans, then they could almost become victimised.”
Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust chairman Paul Corkrey said: “Many innocent football fans are subjected to being filmed repeatedly.
“It can be alarming to fans, constantly being followed, filmed and generally treated differently from supporters of other sports.
“But, surely, if the fans are innocent, the film should then be destroyed as soon as possible.”
A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “The high number of banning orders is a reflection of the proactive work carried out between South Wales Police and the region’s football clubs, and the positive action taken against anyone identified as causing trouble on match days.”

| Birmingham City - Aston Villa - 13/09/2009
Source : goal.com Birmingham City And Aston Villa Fans Arrested At Derby Clash
The Midlands derby was marred by a number of arrests that were made during the game...
West Midlands Police have confirmed that 14 supporters of Birmingham City and Aston Villa have been arrested following incidents during yesterday's derby at St Andrew's.
As reported by the Daily Mail, six Aston Villa fans were involved, with four charged for running onto the pitch and two given fixed penalty notices for public order offences.
Seven Birmingham supporters were released on police bail pending further enquiries; one a woman who was suspected of assault.
The heated second city derby has been at the centre of much controversy and incident over the years, notably in March 2003 when missles were launched at police who were attempting to separate angry groups of rival fans.
English clubs were hit with a five-year European football ban in 1985 following the Heysel Stadium Disaster in which Liverpool fans charged at Juventus supporters, causing the deaths of 39 people when a wall collapsed in the ensuing stampede.
A lot of work was subsequently done to identify and ban football hooligans from attendance and cultivate a family atmosphere around the grounds. However, following last month's League Cup game between West Ham United and Millwall - where a stabbing and numerous fights overshadowed the match itself - the spotlight has been turned back onto the issue of football hooliganism.

Officers said there had been a “small number of incidents” around Blues’ St Andrews ground following the lunchtime match.
Seven Birmingham City fans were arrested. Three men were arrested on suspicion of public order, two men arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and one man and one woman were arrested on suspicion of assault. They were bailed.

| Abusive Bristol City fan banned for three years - 15/09/2009
Source : Bristol Evening Post
A yob who hurled abuse at police during a Bristol City match at Ashton Gate has been banned from every ground in the country for three years.
Kevin Morrison was also banned from a large area around Bristol City's ground for three hours before and two hours after any home game by Bristol magistrates yesterday.
Morrison, of Creswicke Road, Knowle, was one of a group of fans who clashed with police and stewards in the Wedlock Stand at the end of City's 2-1 Championship win over Middlesbrough on August 29.
The incident occurred at the edge of the block closest to the away fans.
CCTV footage provided by the Crown Prosecution Service clearly shows 23-year-old Morrison, wearing a pink polo shirt, at the front of a group of fans, screaming and shouting abuse at police and stewards. He can be seen surging towards police and raising his arms to threaten them.
Prosecuting, Krystle Fonyonga said Morrison had tried to pull a friend who was being arrested away from the police, then shouted abuse at them before raising his fists towards an officer and saying "come on then".
Ms Fonyonga said: "His friends carried on shouting abuse and pushed towards police for five minutes.
"When he realised he was going to be arrested he pushed his way through the crowd to a different part of the stadium."
But another officer found Morrison and arrested him, she added.
Pleading guilty at Bristol Magistrates' Court to charges of using threatening, abusive of insulting words or behaviour, Morrison told the court that he was sorry, that his actions had been stupid and that he should not have done what he did.
Presiding magistrate Robert Stacey ordered him to pay £300 in fines, £85 costs and a victim's surcharge of £15.
The bench also imposed the football banning order which also stipulated that Morrison must not travel to any town or city when Bristol City are playing an away game there, and not travel by train when City are away or England are playing.
The sentence was hailed a success by Roger Thayer, Avon and Somerset Constabulary's force football officer.
Mr Thayer said: "It is good news for the community that a person who has a football-related conviction will now be kept away from football grounds for three years.
"It is a preventative measure, and now there is one less person involved in violence on match days.
"Football violence, in any way, shape or form, is completely unacceptable."
A 22-year-old man appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards police and safety marshals in the Wedlock Stand at Ashton Gate on August 29.
Michael Lewis, of Hardwicke, Yate, was bailed to reappear at the court on October 5, and is not allowed to go to Ashton Gate for a football match before then.

| Barrow AFC fans banned - 16/09/2009
Source : NW Evening Mail
TWO youths have been banned from all football grounds in England and Wales after an incident at an AFC away game.
The two males, aged 16 and 17, from Barrow, both travelled to Wrexham on August 31. The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested at around 5.45pm when there was a fight with opposing fans in the town centre following the Blue Square Premier match which finished in a 0-0 draw.
Both males, one of whom is a Barrow season ticket holder, pleaded guilty to section four public order offences at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning. They were each given a three year football banning order, preventing them from attending all regulated football matches in England and Wales for the next three years.
Barry Fitzgerald, security advisor to Barrow AFC, said: “Barrow AFC will not tolerate disorderly or antisocial behaviour of any kind and we fully support any football banning orders imposed by the courts.
“We are in the process of making a policy in respect of people who misbehave at Holker Street and who travel away and carry on in this manner, which will be publicised shortly.
“We want to create a family atmosphere and anybody who behaves in a disorderly way, either at Holker Street or in the name of Barrow AFC at away games, will not be welcome.
“Good riddance, we don’t want them at Holker Street or connected with the club.”
Detective Constable Craig Barrass, football intelligence officer for Barrow AFC, said: “Violence and disorder at football matches is on the increase and Cumbria Constabulary will continue to work with the football authorities, Barrow AFC and the Crown Prosecution Service to eradicate this behaviour from Barrow AFC games.
“The bans handed out to these individuals are welcomed and it shows that the courts will take this kind of behaviour seriously and will not hesitate to use their powers to ban persons convicted of such offences.”

| Record number of hooligans arrested - 17/09/2009
Source : The Press Association
Police arrested the highest ever number of suspected football hooligans on Britain's railway network last year.
A total of 838 people were arrested during the last financial year, according to figures from the British Transport Police (BTP).
The number of football fans held was an increase of 40% on the 601 arrests recorded during the previous 12-month period.
Senior officers said a "significant minority" are responsible for wreaking havoc on trains and at railway stations.
More than 40 people were arrested in Manchester last May when Rangers supporters clashed with riot police after the Uefa Cup final. Officers came under attack after a big screen in Piccadilly Gardens failed and a Russian fan was stabbed inside the City of Manchester stadium.
Other significant incidents took place on a Cambridge to London train and outside Sydenham station in south east London, after a match between Crystal Palace and Charlton.
The force also obtained 81 football banning orders, a significant increase on its official target of 63.
Despite the rise in football-related hooliganism, BTP scored significant successes in tackling the majority of other types of crimes. Figures released in the force's annual report showed overall crime fell by 4.5% to 67,217 offences. Violent crime, sexual offences and criminal damage also fell.
But senior officers said level crossing incidents remain a growing hazard with 3,479 incidents of misuse recorded, an increase of 20%. There are three near misses every week, on average, between trains and motorists on the 7,600 crossings across the country. A total of 15 people were killed at level crossings and there were 20 collisions between trains and vehicles.
Chief Constable Andy Trotter said: "Anti-social behaviour has an adverse affect on people's journeys and the working environment for rail staff. It is unacceptable and it is one of my priorities for us to crack down on this sort of offending."

3 injured in fan violence in Belgrade
Serbian police say three people have been injured in a fight between the supporters of Partizan Belgrade and French club Toulouse ahead of a Europa League match.
Drago Jovanovic, a spokesman for the Belgrade Emergency Clinic, says the injured include two French nationals and a Serb. Doctors say one of the French fans has been seriously injured.
The official Tanjug news agency says the fight erupted when some 30 Partizan fans attacked supporters of the French club who were sitting in a pub in downtown Belgrade ahead of Thursday's match.

French fan in hospital after Belgrade violence
A French football fan is in a critical condition after rival supporters clashed ahead of a Europa League match on Thursday, Belgrade's B92 television reported.
A 28-year-old Toulouse fan was taken to hospital with serious head and chest injuries before the French first division side's match with Partizan Belgrade, B92 said quoting the Emergency Centre's director.
"A French citizen was admitted to intensive care this evening with serious head and chest injuries and the Emergency Centre's entire staff is treating him," Vladimir Djukic said. "His condition has been stabilised but it is still critical."
Two other fans were taken to hospital with minor injuries after 30 Partizan fans and 15 Toulouse supporters clashed outside a bar in central Belgrade.
Toulouse won their opening incident-free Group J match 3-2 after two goals from Pantxi Sirieix and one by Antoine Devaux cancelled out strikes by Mladen Krstajic and Cleo.
Partizan were thrown out of the UEFA Cup, the Europa League's predecessor, in 2007 after their fans caused trouble at Bosnian rivals Zrinjski Mostar.

Toulouse fan beaten, in critical condition
A French football supporter seriously assaulted in central Belgrade before last night’s match between Partizan and Toulouse remains in a critical condition.
The 27-year-old, who was injured during a fight yesterday between rival fans in Obilićev Venac, sustained serious head and chest injuries and is currently in the intensive care unit, said Drago Jovanović from the Clinical Center of Serbia.
According to Jovanović, the Frenchman is being treated by a whole team of neuro-surgeons, surgeons and anaesthesiologists.
He added that one other French national, as well as a Serbian, had been admitted to the neuro-surgery unit at the clinical center.
The authorities have contacted the Casualty department regarding the French supporter’s condition. Meanwhile, the French consul last night visited the French nationals to establish their identities and current condition, Tanjug was informed by the French embassy.
“The patient, born in 1981, has been seriously injured. He was admitted conscious and disoriented, upset. He was sent for tests. The scanner showed a skull fracture. His condition has since deteriorated. His vital parameters are declining and he is now on a life-support machine,” said Mirko Kerkez, the head of the team of surgeons.
The other French national and a barman working in the bar where the fight broke out also sustained minor injuries.
“The other patient, born in 1975, also a French national, sustained minor injuries. He has a head injury…He is stable and has also been sent for tests,” Kerkez explained.
Witnesses who spoke to B92 said that the fight had broken out outside the Irish Pub in Obilićev Venac at about 18:00 CET.
After a verbal exchange, a group of around 30 hooligans set upon 15 or so Toulouse fans who had been sitting outside. The violence then quickly spread to a number of neighboring bars.

| Blues' fans complain of heavy police presence at games - 18/09/2009
Source : Essex Echo
POLICE insist they are only targeting potential troublemakers, after football fans complained of an “alarming” number of officers outside recent Southend United home games at Roots Hall.
Concerns were raised after police lines were set up at the Leyton Orient and Leeds games in the past couple of weeks.
The move caused a bottleneck outside Roots Hall, which disrupted hundreds of fans as they tried to leave the ground.
However, police insist it was necessary due to concerns about “risk groups” who may have been planning to cause trouble.
Richard Tanner, who lives in Westbury Road, Southend, was at the Leeds game on September 11 when he got caught up in the crowd leaving the west stand.
“I’ve been going to Southend all my life, and I’ve never known them do anything like this with regards to stopping fans coming out of the ground,” he said.
“I took my mother, who’s 80, and it was quite alarming because it caused a lot of congestion coming out.
“If they were planning to do this, they should’ve had police further down the line letting people know what was going on.”
Leyton Orient fan Alan Harvey, 76, was caught up in the fracas when leaving the game on September 4.
He got into a dispute with an officer after making a comment about the amount of police in the area. Mr Harvey, of East Street, Rochford, said: “He got me by the collar, swung me round, and got his arm around me. I was so shocked.
“I couldn’t get into an argument with him, so I just had to say I was sorry.”
Mr Harvey said many fans were also becoming annoyed because matches were being held on Fridays to avoid weekend trouble.
Det Con Dick Spooner, football intelligence officer, said at both matches they had received information about risk groups in the area.
He added: “Before the Leeds match, we found a large Southend risk group in a pub, and decisions were made we would escort them to the ground, which we did. To prevent disorder at the end of the match, we put a police presence outside the west stand in Shakespeare Drive.
“We took out members of the Southend risk group and held them to stop disorder happening in and around the town.
“Everything was done for public safety, and public safety is always taken into consideration before we do anything.”
A man was arrested at the Leyton Orient game and charged with racial chanting at players. The man, from London, will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on September 23.

STOKE City Football Club is working on improving ties with Greater Manchester Police after 80 Potters fans were sent home without watching a match last season.
The group was forced to leave Manchester last November over fears of violence before Stoke's match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Stoke City's chief executive Tony Scholes has held discussions with the police and the Football Supporters' Federation ahead of the Potters' game against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow.
