Rubin Kazan – Krilya Sovetov Samara - 18/10/2003

Source: fanats.ru

Kazan version:

It was ~20 of us and ~40 lads from Samara. When they attacked us firstly we
could only resist, then they began to throw bricks and stones, but in total we
saw them running from us. Samara hooligans brought rather good stuff here that
was more experienced than our, but it was our day.

Soccer violence suspects charged - 23/10/2003

Source : BBC NEWS

Eight suspected soccer hooligans have been charged in connection with an outbreak of violence after a football match.

The men were charged after a series of dawn raids at addresses across north Staffordshire on Thursday.

They have been charged in connection with disorder after the Wrexham v Port Vale Division Two fixture on 4 October.

Chief Inspector Paul Giannasi said: "The responsibility for investigating these offences would normally rest with North Wales Police.

"But we are so determined to rid local clubs of violent followers that we have dedicated a team of officers to arrest and process the offenders.

"We are determined to work with Port Vale to reduce disorder and more arrests will follow."

Officers are still working to identify a number of people in connection with the violence on a housing estate near Wrexham's home ground, during which missiles were thrown at police and houses.

Tottenham Hotspur - West Ham United - League - 29/10/2003

Source : BBC NEWS

Arrests over football violence

Ninety-three West Ham fans have been arrested after violence before and after a London derby football match.

Police arrested the fans before the Hammers' Carling Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, north London, on Wednesday.

They were called at 1508 GMT to a Tottenham supporters' pub, The Cockerel, on Tottenham High Road, after reports of a large group causing trouble.

The pub suffered "extensive damage" and a number of West Ham fans were later arrested at nearby Northumberland Park for criminal damage and violent disorder.

Police said "skirmishes" continued throughout the afternoon and evening on the High Road and at least two other pubs were damaged.

There were some injuries and one man, who is not thought to be seriously hurt, was taken to hospital.

Scotland Yard said there was no trouble inside White Hart Lane, although two people were arrested and eight ejected for drinking and vandalism offences during the game which started at 1945 GMT.

Police are now examining CCTV footage to "find any other perpetrators".

Gary Lee, the owner of the Cockerel, told BBC London: "I'm surprised at the police. They are usually on the ball but I think they were caught on the hop.

"At one point there were just two WPCs in the middle of it all and I felt sorry for them.

"But I don't understand how 150 football fans can go from one side of the London to the other without being noticed."

Premiership side Tottenham beat their Division One rivals 1-0 after extra time to go through to the fourth round of the Carling Cup.

Aston Villa - Birmingham City - 19/10/2003

Source : BIRMINGHAM POST

Football hooligans in battle after derby

Running battles broke out on city centre streets between football hooligans and police last night hours after Aston Villa and Birmingham City drew 0-0 at St Andrews.

Riot police working to keep fans apart after the derby found themselves at the receiving end of post-match frustration when supporters of both teams arranged a meet at 5.30pm in the city, according to a source.

While they successfully managed to keep Blues and Villa fans apart with the use of a police helicopter and riot vans, officers were involved in two separate clashes.

They were confronted by Blues fans around Lancaster Circus and simultaneously engaged in running battles with about 300 Villa fans on Corporation Street, High Street and Dale End.

One fan said: "Police were caught in the middle trying to keep fans apart and they succeeded but fans ended up fighting with riot gear police."

But the rest of the day passed off with minimum trouble and only four arrests before and during the game which kicked off at noon.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said the force was pleased with the way the day had passed and the behaviour of the fans during the match.

Chief Inspector Steve Glover said: "The police operation was extensive. There were little problems before the game and as usual the vast majority of people went to enjoy the football.

"At half time there had been two arrests for minor offences of disorder and there were two further arrests just after full time."

Both teams received one point each for the goal-less draw which saw the Blues remain fourth in the Premiership table and their opponents 14th.

Who leaked soccer battle video? - 19/10/2003

Source : SUNDAY MERCURY

Secret police video footage of a vicious brawl between Blues and Villa thugs is being sold over the internet to hooligans.

The Sunday Mercury has obtained a copy of the shocking film, which is set to be used in evidence in a forthcoming trial.

Police claim that it may have been sold after being handed to the defence teams of those arrested following mass fighting before the Second City derby in September, 2002.

The video shows around 50 hooligans from both sides fighting a brutal running battle ahead of the explosive match.

The video, which has been authenticated by West Midlands Police, was purchased for 15 Euros (around £10) on the internet from a salesman in Holland.

Dozens of yobs are seen brawling and throwing bottles and crates at each other in Rocky Lane, Nechells, around an hour before the St Andrew’s match which Blues won 3-0.

The footage of what has now been dubbed by hooligans as ‘The Battle of Rocky Lane’, also shows one man attacking others with a metal pole.

The running battle was apparently a pre-arranged fight between Blues thugs, called Zulus, and Aston Villa yobs, known as Villa Hardcore.

It involved around 200 hooligans and was the worst soccer violence to erupt in Birmingham for several years.

Rival fans were armed with CS gas canisters, batons, knives and makeshift weapons made of billiard balls in socks.

In total there were 41 arrests on the night, all for a variety of public order offences. Later around 30 suspected soccer yobs were arrested in a series of dawn swoops.

Since the violence a number of fans have pleaded guilty to charges of violent disorder while two others face a retrial on accusations of violent disorder.

It is for this trial that the police video was to have been presented as key evidence.

The video, which lasts for 30 minutes and is advertised on a football fans’ website, begins with police officers filming men on mobile phones outside a Birmingham city centre bar.

It then switches to a recording made by a policeman as he runs towards Rocky Lane. Chants of what appears to be the word “Zulus” can be heard.

The officer then begins filming as two groups of shouting, screaming and chanting thugs face each other in the street - before violence then erupts.

As bottles rain down and fighting breaks out, another officer can be heard instructing the cameraman to “get some faces”.

He then reels off a list of names of people he recognises involved in the violence.

After a few minutes, a police van arrives at the scene and the recording ends.

The scenes are then repeated in slow motion and a grid graphic - used for identifying suspects - is placed over the images.

The fact that official footage from Rocky Lane is being offered for sale to hooligans has been condemned by West Midlands Police.

A spokeswoman told the Sunday Mercury it was likely that the recording had been leaked by one of those charged in connection with the battle.

“Video evidence used when people are arrested and charged has to be legally disclosed to the defendants’ counsel,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate, but we can’t control what they do with their copy of the video.”

Following the derby, the Sunday Mercury reported how hooligans spoke of their fear that footage of the battle would get out - resulting in them being identified and arrested.

On a Zulu internet site one Blues hooligan, who calls himself ZA, said: “No results, but good turn-out for both sides! I’m waiting for someone to sort out some footage from Aston.

“I know some lads have been nicked so if I ever get the tape I’ll be taking a look before I put it online.”

The move angered Villa hooligans. One calling himself AVFC Loyal used the website to warn that police were monitoring the net.

He said: “Some good points made but time for silence on the subject. Anyway, verdict Rocky Lane: even stevens. Closed book!”

Police will be out in force today to stop soccer yobs hijacking the Second City derby as football in Birmingham comes under the spotlight yet again.

Final touches have been made to the security operation, one of the biggest ever in the city, as Blues play host to Villa.

A new ‘keep the peace’ poster campaign has been launched, urging fans to behave.

But there are real fears of more clashes between hooligans, particularly as running battles broke out between football thugs and police in riot gear following the return Villa v Blues match in March, which Birmingham won 2-0.

A total of 27 supporters were charged with public disorder after 31 fans were arrested on the night.

Police have warned that banning orders will be sought for anyone causing trouble before, during or after today’s high noon showdown.

Hooligan suspects arrested - 03/10/2003

Source : BIRMINGHAM POST

Suspected football hooligans have been arrested following violent clashes between non-league rivals in the Midlands.

Ten men were arrested in Hereford following clashes at the match against Burton Albion two weeks ago.

Violence erupted during the half time interval of Hereford United's Conference game at Burton on Friday, September 19.

Around 30 Hereford supporters left the terraces and became involved in fighting and coin throwing before stewards, helped by substitutes, managed to restore order as the second half got underway.

Yesterday's operation involved plain clothes and uniformed police from the Staffordshire and West Mercia forces who raided homes and business addresses in Hereford and Ledbury.

Detective Inspector Neil Hulme, of Staffordshire Police, who co-ordinated the operation, said: "We will not tolerate violent behaviour of any kind at Burton Albion, so we were determined to take action following the Hereford match.

"Violence at non league games does appear to be on the rise, because there is often no police presence at the grounds. Clubs have to pay for policing and cannot afford to have officers at every match.

"There was no intelligence to suggest there would be trouble at this game, and there were no police there."

Det Insp Hulme said the trouble appeared to have been caused mainly by Hereford fans, who were involved in violence during a game against Tamworth this season.

The suspects arrested yesterday were traced after officers examined CCTV footage from the game. Det Insp Hulme said: "This action re-iterates our determination to keep football safe for home supporters and visiting fans."

About 10 AC Milan lads, while entering in the stadium, have engaged a fight against cops, leaving one of them beaten on the ground - he has been medicated at San Carlo hospital. Inquirers are now searching for the aggressors.

PAOK Saloniki - Xanthi Skoda - 04/10/2003

Source: Soccer Fans website

After the referee refused Paok a clear penalty on the last minute of the game versus Xanthi Paok fans went on the rampage. They tried to invade the pitch and started pelting the referee with stones, bottles and coins. A riot police team
had to escort the referee to leave the pitch. A second, and more intense, half of the incidents took place outside the stadium. Many Paok fans tried to reach the referee's room but were held back by the riot police. The Paok fans attacked the police using stones and metal bars, the police retaliated with tear gas and made a couple of charges.

Fluminense - 21/10/2003

Source: Soccer Fans website

A fan of torcida Garra Tricolor insulted players at their own Fluminese's practice yesterday, and spit on them. The players were also accused by being yellow and cowards as the fans also brought in live chickens and put them on the pitch. One of the victims was ex-World Cup champ veteran Romario. The players didn't react and kept practicing. After the players showered and began to leave, Romario went to the stands to look for the fan, who happened to be alone and started beating him. The teams physical therapist also joined in the fight. The fan started to run and 10 other torcedores arrived. Luckily 4 security agents appeared to stop the fight. The fan was arrested. Fluminese is close to being relegated this year.

Glasgow Rangers - Manchester United - 22/10/2003

Source: BBC

TWENTY-FIVE football hooligans were arrested last night as English thugs marred the showpiece Battle of Britain clash.
The gang ran riot near Ibrox before the Champions League tie between Rangers and Manchester United and the arrests came as fights broke out along Paisley Road West on the main approach to the ground.
During the game the number of arrests rose to nearly 50, mainly for minor offences. After the match, which Manchester United won 1-0, police reported only one more football related offence.
The violence involving the "casuals" has raised fears of further trouble at the return match in Manchester in 12 days.
More than 4000 English fans were believed to have travelled north for the game and most were in good
spirits and well behaved.
But it is understood Manchester United "casuals" had gathered in a bar on Paisley Road West, where they spent much of the day drinking. At around 6pm they left the pub and ran riot down the busy road, attacking rival supporters and the public at random. Passers-by took refuge in doorways. Much of the violence took place outside the District Bar, a favourite haunt of Rangers fans. Police, who had been monitoring the fans' movements, moved in with raised batons to quell the trouble
and mounted police helped to disperse the fighting fans.
Further along Paisley Road West, at the Park Bar, an ambulance took an injured fan to the Southern General Hospital, but he was not thought to have been badly hurt.
Police had anticipated potential trouble spots and reinforcements had been drafted in to back up crowd control.
Bar staff were helping cut the risk of trouble by posting security guards at doors and restricting admission, and the hooligan elements were quickly spotted.
Manchester United fans who had sung Celtic songs and waved green and white flags during the game were kept inside the stadium for more than an hour after the match in an attempt to allow the Rangers support to disperse.
Police vans were parked outside several bars in the city centre where fans had gathered after the match and their presence helped quieten behaviour. One witness, a landscape gardener from Busby, said: "The scenes in Paisley Road West were like a battleground, but the police were quick to bring the trouble under control.
"Police were ushering the Rangers supporter back into the pubs while they controlled the Manchester fans. They prevented a mini-riot.
"Inside the ground I saw one Rangers fan try to get near the rival supporters after Manchester scored, but police whisked him away." A police spokesman said: "There were violent scenes in Paisley Road West before the game started and 25 arrests were made. During the game another 24 were arrested, all for minor offences. "After the game one more arrest was made. Overall, the fans were good-natured and, trouble-makers apart, mixed well."

AEK Athens - Olympiakos Pireus - 26/10/2003

Source : Reuters

Violent clashes between Greek supporters ahead of Sunday's Athens derby between AEK Athens and Olympiakos left a teenager in hospital with a knife wound.

The unnamed fan was stabbed in the chest during fighting in the city centre before kick off, Athens police said. The victim was transferred to hospital where he was undergoing surgery.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Source: Soccer Fans website

4 hours before the game Aek-Olympiakos a group of about 150 Aek hooligans attacked a central club of Olympiakos fans. About 30 people were defending the club and fought against Aek hooligans. One of them, a 22 year-old lad, was stabbed in the chest and had to be commited in the hospital in critical condition as the stab was inches away from his heart.Thankfully now he is recovering though still in intensive care.
About 2 hours before the game a big group of Olympiakos supporters, who were arriving, near Aek's stadium was attacked by a group of Aek hooligans who were throwing flares, torches, stones, sticks etc. Olympiakos hooligans retaliated, many of them were wearing helmets as they arrived on motorbikes, and soon forced Aek hooligans to retreat after some fighting. They chased them but were forced back by the riot police who had just arrived, the police used tear gas and made baton charges.
The worst incidents took place inside the stadium. 30 minutes before kick-off many Aek hools ( it is also said that 9 Livorno lads were among them ) invaded into the pitch as there is no security fence into this stadium. The riot police tried to force them back but the cops had to reterat as the resistance they faced was too much for them to handle. Stones, torches,
riped-off chairs and metal bars were used against the police. Reinforcements came and the riot police made many batton charges but each time Aek hooligans were retaiating succesfully.
The cops couldn't enter their stand as they faced resistance by many people. Many fans and riot policemen were injured during the fights. After the game - Aek lost - many Aek fans were gathered outside the players room to protest but were held back by the riot police.

Bournemouth: Soccer fans appear in court - 23/10/2003

Source: http://www.burnhamandhighbridgeweeklynews.co.uk

TWO Bournemouth fans arrested at last week's Yeovil Town LDV Vans Trophy match at Huish Park have been given conditional discharges after they appeared before magistrates on Monday.

Brothers Paul and Mark Barker both pleaded guilty to separate offences of being drunk while trying to enter a designated sports ground at a time of a sports event at that ground.

The court at Yeovil was told that both men had carried on with their attempts to get in to the match despite being warned by police earlier that evening that they would be arrested if they were drunk while attempting to do so.

Both Paul, aged 32, of Blackfield Road, Bournemouth and Mark, aged 29, of Charminster Road, Bournemouth, were discharged for nine months on condition that they commit no further offences. They were also ordered to pay £43 each towards the costs of bringing the case.

Both fans could have faced a ban from football matches for between three and five years but South Somerset Magistrates turned down an application by prosecutor Tony Scofield for a banning order.

The application was opposed by defending solicitor Paul Walters who told magistrates: "It would be like trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut."

Mr Scofield said that since Yeovil Town had been promoted to the third division matches held at Huish Park came under The Sport Events (control of alcohol) Act 1985.

He said that police outside the ground had spotted Paul Barker queuing outside the turnstile and noticed he was staggering and showing signs of suffering from the effects of alcohol.

An officer had spotted Paul Barker about an hour earlier and warned him if he was drunk he would not get in.

Mr Scofield said: "When the officer spoke to him in the queue he was still drunk and despite the warning was still trying to get in the ground."

He said that Mark Barker had also been queuing trying to get in despite being spoken to by a police inspector who had noticed Mark Barker had been suffering the effects of alcohol.

When spoken to a second time he had told officers he was only trying to get in to see the match and was seen to leave.

But, Mr Scofield told magistrates, shortly afterwards Mark Barker came back and again tried to get in but was told he could not get in while drunk.

Defence solicitor Paul Walters told the court that both brothers had been worse for drink and had apologised.

He explained that they had come from Bournemouth in a mini-bus to watch the match and had stopped at a pub in town before going to the ground.

"They committed no violence and used no threatening or abusive words. Their problem was they were simply the worse for drink. They had plenty of opportunity to cause trouble if they had wanted to.''

"If they had been found in a street they probably would have been sent on their way.''

Allegations against Andrew Keen, aged 20 of Derham Way, Branscombe, Poole and Mark Welstone, aged 20 of Waterstone, Poole, of being drunk while trying to enter a designated ground at the time of a sports event at that ground were adjourned until November 3.

Both men were bailed on condition they do not attend Yeovil matches or England matches.

An allegation that Sean Davey, aged 31, of Wareham Road, Corfe Mullen, threw a missile in a spectators area at Huish Park was also adjourned until November 3 with Davey given conditional bail.

Soccer yobs in hospital rampage - 20/10/2003

Source: The Birmingham Post

Sick children screamed in terror as riot police and football fans clashed in a bloody Birmingham hospital casualty unit "riot".

Horrified parents and nurses ushered the terrified youngsters to safety behind cubicles as baton wielding officers and thugs clashed.

Around 25 traumatised youngsters screamed as one fan was coshed over the head by a policeman, splattering blood everywhere. The trouble flared in the Children's Hospital after the supporters, thought to have been Villa fans, were confronted by police in Corporation Street.

Some ran into the A&E unit where the waiting room calm was shattered as officers chased them in shortly after 6pm.

Shocked doctors and nurses hid young patients and their families behind a cubicle to shield them from the clashes.

"About 40 fans ran through the waiting room and the riot police followed, coshing them with their batons in view of all the children," said an A&E nurse, who did not wish to be named.

"The police seemed hyped up with adrenaline and I was furious that they put us into that vulnerable situation. They didn't seem to realise where they were. I've worked for years at the hospital and have never seen anything like it."

Police confirmed youths were dispersed away from the hospital and some fans went into the building.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said:

"We have got reports of youths seen entering the hospital but we are not aware of any arrests inside the hospital or what happened inside. There were several incidents of disorder reported in the city centre and some fans were intent on causing problems."

Hooligan suspects arrested - 03/10/2003

Source: The Birmingham Post

England: Police plea after pub assault - 13/10/2003

Source: http://www.lutontoday.co.uk

Soccer fans could provide vital clues
Police investigating an attack outside a Dunstable pub after Saturday's England soccer match are appealing for witnesses.

The incident happened outside the Saracen's Head pub in the High Street, and investigators hope that football fans who went to the pub to watch the England v Turkey game could provide vital information.

The victim, in his mid 30s, was taken to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital for stitches in a head wound and detained overnight after the assault, which happened at about 11pm.

A man has been arrested and released on bail pending enquiries.

Det Con Terry Davis, who is heading the investigation, said that the pub was busy all evening and he is keen to speak to anyone who either witnessed the assault or any other kind of incident in the pub during the evening.

He said: "We need to establish exactly what happened and are keen to speak to all those who were either inside the pub or outside at the time of the assault.

"Anyone who hasn't already been spoken to by a police officer should get in touch as soon as possible."

Det Con Davis can be contacted on 01582 473331 or you can pass on information anonymously through the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
