Police in Croatia open fire during football fan clash
Croatian police have opened fire with live ammunition during clashes on a highway with hundreds of football fans returning from a match in the capital, authorities have said.
Two fans and about a dozen police officers were injured late on Saturday.
The violence happened when a convoy of buses was transporting Hajduk Split fans under police escort after the team lost a match to league rival Dinamo Zagreb.
The buses stopped and a group of fans turned against officers, police said in a statement.
The Hajduk fans blocked the highway and ignored police orders to disperse, the statement added. Police then used live ammunition and other means to repel the fans, it said.
Two fans were thought to have been struck by bullets, but none of the injured, including the police officers, were in life-threatening condition, police said.
No further details were provided in the statement.

Outnumbered Croatian police officers fired warning shots into the air and ground with live ammunition when soccer fans returning from a match in the capital attacked them on a highway with iron bars, bats and flares, authorities said Sunday.
At least 35 people were injured, including four fans with bullet wounds. The violence late Saturday happened when a convoy of more than 260 cars and buses was transporting Hajduk Split fans under police escort after their team lost 3-1 to Dinamo Zagreb. The two teams have a fierce rivalry — Split is Croatia's second-largest city after Zagreb — and Hajduk fans may have been angry because police barred them from entering Zagreb's stadium with flares and banners.
About 2,000 fans refused to enter the stadium and remained outside throughout the match, police said. As they were traveling back to Split, which is about 355 kilometers (220 miles) south of Zagreb, a group of fans blocked traffic and started attacking officers on a section of the highway on the outskirts of the capital, police said. The road is the main Croatian highway leading from Zagreb to the Adriatic Sea coast. Police said the fans ignored orders to disperse. “There were no signs something like this could happen,” said Damir Baric, a senior police official in charge of public security. “They blocked traffic, suddenly ran out of their vehicles and advanced on the police who were 10 times outnumbered.”
Zagreb police chief Marko Rasic said that three officers tried to find shelter inside a police van, but that the fans hurled a burning flare inside the vehicle forcing them to evacuate. He said the three police officers discharged their firearms, shooting about two dozen shots mainly into the air but also into the ground. These bullets apparently ricocheted and wounded the attackers, he said. One fan struck by a bullet was seriously wounded and none of the other injured, including the police officers, were in life-threatening condition, police said.
Police have detained 43 people who are facing charges of inciting unrest that carries prison sentences from six months to five years if they are convicted. They said that the highway remained closed for much of the night and early morning Sunday. Pictures posted on social media showed what appeared to be flares, and later fans forced to lie on the ground.
Dinamo had already clinched the league title before the match, with Hajduk finishing the season in second place. There were several other incidents reported during and before Saturday's match, including a fire in the stands where Dinamo fans were located after their flares ignited their huge banner. It caused a 10-minute delay in the second half.

The police had to intervene, before the match, at the central station of Stuttgart. The massive arrival of 300 Ulm fans posed a problem. Federal police used pepper spray.
In the second half, both fan camps used smoke bombs in the stadium, and the match had to be interrupted by the referee for a few minutes.
After the cup was awarded, many Kickers hooligans and ultras sought a clash with those of Ulm outside the stadium. The police intervened and 121 fans were arrested.

Jail and community service for rioting NAC hooligans- 23/05/2022
Source : https://netherlands.postsen.com/
For the riots at the NAC stadium last May, most of the 24 adult suspects received community service of up to 240 hours. The court has imposed prison sentences of up to 170 days on five suspects, of which 60 are suspended. Two suspects were given suspended prison terms. “That day ended in a nightmare for police officers,” the court said.
Exactly one year ago, riots broke out at the stadium in Breda, after the defeat of NAC against NEC (1-2). Police officers were terrified when they were pelted with fireworks, stones, crush barriers and beer bottles. Scooters were also destroyed and thrown into the water and they tried to set a police van on fire.
The judge called the violence “completely unacceptable”. Several officers were injured and police vehicles were damaged. The police filed a manslaughter report.
Afraid they would burn alive
According to the court, the extreme violence had a huge impact on the police officers. Some feared for their lives. “Officers on a bus were afraid that they would be burned alive. They were trapped like rats,” said the judge.
One of the officers said: “I survived, but I was afraid I would never come home. I don’t want to risk my life anymore for a bunch of football fans.”

15 Greek hooligans face trial after violence mars cup final - 24/05/2022
Source : https://www.dailysabah.com/
Fifteen Greek hooligans who were arrested at the violence-marred domestic cup final Saturday are to go on trial for various offenses after they were brought before an Athens prosecutor Monday, according to Greek media.
Among the charges they face are disturbing the peace, causing bodily harm and damage to foreign property.
Greek broadcaster ERT reported that police are continuing their investigations to identify more individuals involved in the violence before, during and after the match.
Riot-trained police used teargas and stun grenades to control the hooligans at the match played at the Athens Olympic Stadium with 50,000 spectators attending.
Spanish winger Aitor Cantalapiedra scored a first-half penalty to lift Panathinaikos to a 1-0 victory over PAOK Thessaloniki.
Supporters from both teams fought police and threw flares and smoke bombs.
Meanwhile, authorities of Athens Olympic Stadium on Monday said extensive damage was done to the venue.
They said 412 plastic seats were destroyed, four suites sustained broken doors and windows with damaged furniture and painted walls, press box damage included broken plexiglass and chairs, and throughout the stadium and outside other damage was reported.
"The extensive damage will be repaired immediately and the uninterrupted effort of the last 2.5 years to upgrade and modernize all the facilities of the Olympic Complex, which have been neglected for many years, will continue with the same consistency," stadium officials said in a statement.

Trouble in Tirana ? Hooligan issue hangs over Feyenoord-Roma
In a season when soccer violence has made an ugly comeback, a potential menace hangs over Wednesday’s Europa Conference League final between Dutch club Feyenoord and Italy’s Roma in the Albanian capital of Tirana.
Up to 100,000 fans are expected to travel despite each club being allocated only 4,000 tickets for the inaugural final of the third-tier European tournament, which was designed to give smaller clubs a shot at a continental competition.
Feyenoord and Roma are storied clubs with big fan bases, and notorious violent elements among their support.
Adding to tensions between Feyenoord and Roma is the fact that Tirana has supporter groups from local clubs Dinamo and Partizani, who potentially could seek out either or both.

Racing Club ultras attack Deportivo Cali supporters in Argentina
A group of ultras from Racing Club attacked supporters of the Colombian team Deportivo Cali on a train in the province of Buenos Aires, who they accuse of stealing a flag, and injured several, as shown in the images broadcast this Thursday by various media.
The event happened on Wednesday when supporters of the Colombian team, who face Boca Juniors tonight for the sixth and final day of Group E of the Copa Libertadores, went to the obelisk in Buenos Aires to make a "flag".
In the videos broadcast, several Colombians are seen bloodied and with cuts on their bodies, made with knives or bottles.
In recent days, videos have been circulating on social media in which ultras from Cali celebrate having stolen a flag from Racing, which ensured that they would get revenge.
The attack occurred at the Gerli train station, in the province of Buenos Aires, less than three kilometers from the Racing Club stadium.
Journalist Agustina Sturla, who was on the train, reported on the TN Deportivo website that when she arrived at this station, "the doors of the train opened and dozens of men began to enter" .
“Facas, stones and bottles were seen everywhere. The few Cali fans huddled together and in the blink of an eye they grabbed their knives too," he said.
“Below the train, the scene was not much better. Those who remained on the platform began picking up stones. Nobody knew whether to re-enter the formation or take shelter in some of the breaks in the middle of the platform,” he said.
Racing Club will host Uruguayan River Plate this afternoon at 7:15 p.m. for the sixth and final day of Group B of the Copa Sudamericana and almost two hours later Deportivo Cali will visit Boca Juniors for the sixth day of Group E of the Liberators.
More than 50 Cali supporters detained.
