Euro 2016: Russian arrested over England fan attack - 22/02/2018
Source : BBC
A Russian football fan wanted for attacking an England fan during the Euro 2016 riots in Marseilles has been arrested in Munich. German police said they apprehended the 31-year-old suspect upon his arrival from Moscow. The suspect was not named. Police said his victim suffered fractured bones and injuries to the brain and lungs. He faces up to 15 years in jail in France for attempted homicide and grievous bodily harm. German police only identified the victim as a 51-year-old England fan. But Andrew Bache, from Portsmouth, was 51 when he was attacked during the tournament two years ago. He suffered severe brain injuries and had to be placed in an induced coma, from which he has since emerged. German federal police said the Russian suspect was identified following a joint investigation with British police over the course of almost a year and a half. Police said the suspect had been the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French authorities late last year. He was arrested during a flight change at Munich airport, while on his way to Bilbao in Spain for a Europa League game.
"It seems he didn't count on the good co-operation of European law enforcement agencies," the police statement said. "Now he's sitting in jail in Munich."
The police officer credited with helping to save Mr Bache's life in 2016 said people had described the scene as being similar to a zombie film. PC Stuart Dickerson saw "about 150 Russian hooligans who were clearly trained in fighting", wearing boxing gloves and gum-shields, and carrying metal bars and other weapons. "It was like a load of locusts going through a cornfield," the English officer - on deployment in France - said. "They were just randomly assaulting any England fan that was in their path."

Police officer dies after fighting between Spartak Moscow and Athletic Club fans in Bilbao
Violence before Thursday evening's Europa League return leg between Athletic Club and Spartak Moscow claimed a victim as reports that a member of the Basque civilian police, the Ertzaintza, went into cardiac arrest during fierce fighting between fans from both clubs. The police officer, who was one of five people taken to the Basurto University hospital in Bilbao before the game kicked off, was confirmed dead shortly after 22:00 hours. The officer has been named as 51-year-old Inocendio Alonso García. Video footage suggests he fell the ground without being struck and his colleagues immediately began trying to resuscitate him.
Trouble flares close to the stadium
Despite all of the pre-match precautions, rivals fans from Spartak Moscow and Athletic Club staged a pitched battle in the areas close to San Mamés. The first scuffles took place about an hour and half before the game kicked off at 19:50 hours local time. Prior to that, groups of Russian hooligans met close to the regional television headquarters ETB but a quick response from the civillian police the Ertzaintza prevented trouble from escalating out of control.
But shortly after that, fighting broke out in the Deusto district when a few Russian ultras threw a glass at a group of home fans. Bottles, glasses and flares were hurled from both sets of fans and only a police charge prompted a pause in the battle which left four, wounded - including three Russian fans and one policeman who was taken to hospital after receiving a blow to the face. Five people were arrested for public disorder, three of who are Russian.
Tension in central Bilbao
The atmosphere in Bilbao remained tense with several hundred travelling fans believed to be without tickets for the game.

Rotherham United - Doncaster Rovers - 24/02/2018
Source : www.rotherhamadvertiser.co.uk/
DOZENS of people have already fallen foul of police action ahead of today's Rotherham United clash against Doncaster Rovers.
South Yorkshire Police has an increased presence in the town centre ahead of the South Yorkshire derby at the New York Stadium.
And almost 80 people have been issued with dispersal orders by police amid concerns about possible trouble.
Police match commander Chief Insp Iain Chorlton said dispersal order powers had been used at a pub "and due to public concern and intimidating behaviour".
He added: “Disappointingly there has already been a need to deal with groups likely to cause antisocial behaviour and crime.
“I apologise for any disruption caused.
“I will not shy away from dealing with groups intending to spoil the event for others.
“Disorder was prevented by targeted and effective police action.
“Dispersal powers are only used when proportionate and necessary to ensure public safety.”
Chief Insp Chorlton said: “Seventy-nine people were dispersed — a large number, but intelligence-led and proportionate to each individual and necessary for public safety.”

England : Melksham Town - Thatcham - FA Vase - 24/02/2018
Source : http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/
UGLY crowd scenes marked the end of Melksham Town Football Club's amazing FA Vase cup run when they were beaten by single goal at home to Thatcham Town FC.
Police were forced to hold back a group of up to 40 Thatcham Town FC supporters after the final whistle at the Oakfields Stadium as the two sets of fans clashed.
More than 2,200 supporters turned out to roar Melksham on but their Wembley dream turned to heartbreak as Thatcham's No. 7 Ekow Elliott fired home the only goal in the 89th minute of the quarter-final.
The 0-1 result was the cue for wild celebrations from the Thatcham players in front of their travelling supporters as relief took the place of frustration.
But the final whistle sparked ugly scenes as the Thatcham side ran to receive the acclaim of their fans, who then streamed onto the pitch to join their team's celebrations.
They walked from one end to the other, singing and chanting "We are Thatcham Town and we're on our way to Wembley" provoking anger from the Melksham supporters.
A dozen police in high visibility jackets were forced to keep the opposition fans apart from the Melksham supporters as the atmosphere turned sour.
As the police attempted to diffuse the situation, the Thatcham fans continued to sing and chant. Police held them back until it was safe to get them onto their coach.
It was a ugly end to an otherwise evenly-matched game in which Melksham Town had held their own against a team unbeaten in more than 21 games.
Afterwards, Melksham's commercial manager Darren Perrin said: "We had intelligence from Thames Valley Police during the week that it was likely that a small group of 25-30 Reading supporters would come to the game today intent on causing trouble.
"But the Melksham community are simply the best. To have a crowd of more than 2,200 is absolutely unbelievable.
"We are immensely proud of the players, the manager, the club and of the majority of our supporters. The local community has come out in force and it has been an amazing cup run.

Enraged football fans torch bins, clash with police in Greece
Riots broke out in Thessaloniki, Greece after a soccer derby was called off on Sunday. Frustrated football fans threw missiles at police and set fire to bins, while tear gas was deployed to disperse the crowd. The PAOK-Olympiakos Greek Super League game was canceled after Olympiakos manager Oscar Garcia was hit in the face by a paper roll thrown from the stands at the club’s Toumba Stadium just before the match began. At first, the game was delayed but it was finally abandoned some two and a half hours later. Garcia was taken to hospital for a head scan, Ekathimerini reports, and was treated for an injury to his lip.
Fans vented their frustration on the streets surrounding the Toumba Stadium. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds, many of whom were throwing missiles at law enforcers. Footage shows multiple bins engulfed in flames. A group of fans are also seen rolling a large bin towards a line of riot police.
According to the league’s rules, if a club’s supporters are found to be responsible for injuring anyone on the pitch, the club loses 3-0 and has three points docked. The club may also have to pay a fine, Reuters reports. PAOK is currently top of the league, while Olympiakos is in third place.

Atalanta charged following fans' alleged 'monkey chants' at Michy Batshuayi - 27/02/2018
Source : http://www.independent.co.uk/
Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Atalanta following alleged monkey chants from the club's fans during last week's Europa League clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund's Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi, on loan from Chelsea, claimed after the second leg of the last-32 tie in Italy that he was the subject of alleged racist abuse.
European football's governing body confirmed on Monday afternoon that Atalanta faced charges of "racist behaviour (monkey chants)", the setting-off of fireworks, throwing of objects and blocked stairways, while Dortmund were charged with the setting-off of fireworks and throwing of objects.

France : Marseille and St Etienne fans banned from travelling to this weekend’s games - 23/02/2018
Source : http://sport.bt.com/
There have now been 10 Ligue 1 matches this season subject to banning orders for visiting fans.
There will be no away supporters at either of this Sunday’s two high-profile rivalry clashes in Ligue 1 after Marseille and St Etienne fans were banned from travelling.
OM face league leaders Paris St Germain in ‘Le Classique’ and before that, ASSE make the short trip to fierce rivals Lyon looking to avenge their 5-0 defeat earlier in the season.
That match was marred by crowd trouble at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, including a pitch invasion after Lyon’s Nabil Fekir celebrated a goal by taking his shirt off and displaying it to the home fans. St Etienne suffered a partial stadium closure for two games as a result.
France’s interior minister Gerard Collomb, in a statement publised by the French government on legifrance.gouv.fr, made reference to several instances of crowd trouble involving both clubs separately before addressing their rivalry.
Collomb wrote: “Relations between the supporters (of both teams) have developed into a fierce rivalry which manifests in violent behaviour which poses a threat to public order.
“Forces of order must always be mobilised against the threat of terrorism which troubles the whole country and cannot be distracted from this priority to respond to trouble linked to the behaviour of supporters at sporting fixtures.”
Listing several areas in and around Lyon, he wrote: “On Sunday February 25, from midnight to midnight, the individual or collective presence of any person who is a supporter of AS Saint-Etienne or behaves as such is forbidden (in these areas).”
There has also been trouble on several occasions at games between PSG and Marseille in recent years and the Paris police prefecture has banned access to the Parc des Princes on Sunday to “persons who are supporters of Olympique de Marseille or who behave as such”.
There have now been 10 Ligue 1 matches this season subject to banning orders for visiting fans.

PSG - OM - French Cup - 28/02/2018
Source : http://bleacherreport.com/
Away supporters have been forbidden from attending league fixtures between the teams in recent years, although around 400 Marseille fans have been allowed to attend Wednesday's Coupe de France quarter-final in Paris.
Christian Cataldo, president and founding member of Marseille ultras group the Dodger's (the erroneous apostrophe has never been corrected), says a rivalry that was born on the pitch has flourished in the stands due to the mutual antipathy that has long existed between residents of Paris—the bourgeois, image-conscious capital—and the people of Marseille, seamy working-class stronghold of the French Mediterranean.
"It's a rivalry of mentality, of way of life, of culture," he says. "We're the south, they're the north. They're the capital, we're the biggest city in France after Paris. It's like a team from Manchester or Liverpool against a team from London. The provinces against the capital. The provinces against the power."

Norwich City - Ipswich Town - 18/02/2018
Source : BBC News
Arrests and damage to ground
Twelve people were arrested and part of Carrow Road was damaged during the East Anglian derby between Norwich City and Ipswich Town.
Sunday's 1-1 draw saw some Ipswich fans removed while others missed the kick-off after an incident which left electrics damaged in the away fans area inside the stand.
Stewards were forced to clear the area and police are appealing for witnesses.
Nearly 2,000 Ipswich fans travelled to the city for the midday kick-off.
Seven people were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage offences, three on suspicion of assault and two on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
But despite the trouble Norfolk Police said there was a "good spirit" between both sets of fans.
Supt Dave Marshall said: "A number of fans were given direction-to-leave notices as a result of their behaviour which was enough to cause concern for officers who took this reactive measure in a bid to prevent disorder."
