Football fan shot dead by police in Rio de Janeiro derby between Vasco da Gama and Flamengo
A 27-YEAR-OLD man has died as Brazilian as Vasco da Gama fans clashed with military police at a Rio de Janeiro derby. Globoesporte report he was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest as supporters rioted following a first home defeat to arch-rivals Flamengo for 44 years.
Two other supporters were shot in the leg, but have been released from hospital, and fourth suffered minor injuries from shattered class. The 27-year-old Vasco fan was rushed to a local hospital immediately after suffering the gunshot wound, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. As well as violence inside the stadium, there were also some serious issues surrounding the exterior of the Sao Januario stadium as military police were showered with bricks and bottles by angry Vasco fans. The home faithful saw their side lose 1-0 to their biggest rivals and reacted by rioting and throwing homemade bombs onto the pitch, where Flamengo players were forced to flee. Some supporters even tried to invade the TV and radio broadcast studios as they attempted to get away from the violence. Military police were forced to intervene — using pepper spray and tear gas in an attempt to bring in order.

Colombian football fan killed by suspected backers of rival team - 12/07/2017
Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/
A fan of the Colombian football team Millonarios was killed by three fans wearing T-shirts of rival Atletico Nacional, police said Wednesday.
The unprovoked assault happened Tuesday night at a bus station in Bogota, police inspector Oscar Solano told Caracol television.
Press reports said the man was stabbed and died later in a hospital.
"A Bogota family is in mourning because football fans allegedly attacked someone," Solano said in a separate interview with Blu radio.
Police arrested the three suspects and they were taken away to be charged with manslaughter, he added.
Last year in Colombia 1,173 people died in violent incidents at sporting and cultural events, according to government figures.

England : West Ham fans named the worst hooligans on British trains - 03/07/2017
Source: https://www.thesun.co.uk/
WEST Ham fans have been named the worst hooligans on British trains across all Premier League teams during the 2015-2016 season.
A new report by Football ticket sales site ticketgum.com shows football related arrests made by British Transport Police have risen for the fourth year running.
There were 233 incidents where a Premier League football team was mentioned as the club the offender supported. It was revealed that West Ham was the worst culprit out of all the Premier League clubs during the 2015-2016 season, with their fans comprising 10 per cent of the total. Second place was tied between Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea – each making up 9 per cent of total reported incidents. And at the bottom of the list was Middlesbrough, where fans made up only 1 per cent of total reported incidents on British transport. The statistics show that the three most common football-related offences are public disorder, alcohol offences and violent disorder. A BTP spokesman said: “Unfortunately, on football match days, law-abiding members of the public and rail staff are subjected to abusive, obscene and sometimes racially offensive chanting, as well as displays of violent behaviour.”
They added: “We adopt a proactive approach to football policing, with officers escorting trains before and after matches and patrolling stations where large numbers of fans are expected.” The BTP added that “fixed penalty notices are not used for football-related offences, making sure that offenders are charged with the most serious offences their conduct warrants.”
One of the reported incidents saw the doors of a train forced open and coins thrown at rival fans. The train lost power as a result and a window was smashed. Another report said a “female informant reported a group of 10 males [who] were wolf whistling, lifting female’s skirts and grabbing the backsides of female passengers as they walked by”. The Home Office report indicates that the overall number of general football-related arrests over the last five football seasons has decreased. But football-related arrests made by the BTP has risen for the fourth year running.

Arrest made as small group of Barrow 'supporters' clash with Rovers fans
BARROW AFC have released a statement condemning the behaviour of an isolated group of their supporters during Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Blackburn Rovers.
Stewards, and home supporters, were forced to intervene as a small group of youngsters clashed with the Rovers supporters who were also situated in the terracing behind the goal on the Holker Street End.
The incident happened during the second half of the pre-season friendly in which Rovers won 2-1.
Barrow say they have video footage of the incident and will work with their stewards, and the police, to identify those responsible.
Barrow police, via social media, said one arrest was made, adding: “We will work with the club. Bans and criminal convictions could follow.”
A club statement said: “On what was an exciting start to our 2017/18 season with a pre-season opener against Blackburn Rovers, the club was extremely disappointed by the behaviour of some individuals in the ground who had no interest in watching a game of football.
“Barrow AFC would like to make it clear that those involved are in no way true supporters of the club, and we are extremely proud and grateful to our true supporters, who stepped in to help resolve the situation.
“We have full video footage of the incident and will work with both our stewards and the police to identify those involved.
“Action will be taken on anyone found to be involved, including a season long ban from the Furness Building Society Stadium for the most egregious offenders.
“Everyone at the club including the staff, players and supporters are working hard to progress on and off the pitch, and we do not need incidents like this to ruin this progress, and the name of the club and the town.

Sectarian pitch battle mars Belfast minnows Champions League clash with Celtic as Protestant Loyalist home supporters yell anti-Catholic abuse and even throw bottles of Buckfast wine at the players from the visiting Glasgow team
Missiles were thrown onto the pitch as fiercely Loyalist Linfield took on the Irish Nationalist-supported side of Celtic in a football qualifier on Friday. With riot police watching on, Celtic emerged victorious over the Northern Ireland club after the match in Belfast. Police made one arrest, a 25-year-old man on suspicion of disorderly behaviour, during the match day operation. The fixture was moved from July 11/12 to avoid a clash with Orange Order commemorations at the height of the marching season.
Projectiles were thrown at Celtic corner takers Leigh Griffiths and Jonny Hayes from a Linfield section of Windsor Park and, at the final whistle, a number of fans of the home team tried to invade the pitch when Griffiths tied a scarf to the goal posts. One supporter successfully made it onto the pitch but was quickly ejected as riot police and stewards stepped in. While Celtic declined its ticket allocation for the Champions League qualifier, citing security concerns, around 200 Hoops fans secured tickets by other means. Celtic, a team synonymous with Irish nationalism, refused tickets amid fears there would be trouble among the club's supporters and fans of Linfield, a team with a strong loyalist support base, during a week that also witnessed key events in the Protestant loyal order marching season in Northern Ireland.
PSNI Superintendent Norman Haslett said: 'I would like to pay tribute to and thank the vast majority of fans from both football clubs who behaved impeccably and enjoyed the football match in Belfast between Linfield and Celtic this afternoon. 'Unfortunately, there were a small number of incidents which police and other relevant authorities will be reviewing in the days to come.'

England : Twelve football hooligans jailed for attack on rival fan that left him permanently brain damaged - 16/07/2017
Source: http://www.echo-news.co.uk/
TWELVE football hooligans who were involved in an ambush on a rival supporter that left him seriously brain-damaged have been jailed.
Judge Ian Pugh called the assault on Simon Dobbin, 45, a “vicious and sustained attack on a defenceless man” as he handed out maximum sentences to three men who he said were at the centre of the violence. Mr Dobbin was among a small group of Cambridge United fans who were assaulted in East Street, Southend, at 7.15pm on March 21, 2015. He was left unable to walk or communicate.
Nine men were convicted of violent disorder following a six-week trial at Basildon Crown Court, while three were found guilty of being involved in a conspiracy to commit violent disorder. Sentencing the men, the judge singled out Thomas Randall, Ryan Carter and Alexander Woods. He said: “The three of you were most involved in the violence late that evening.”
Randall and Woods both had Mr Dobbin’s blood on their clothes while Carter later sent a friend a Facebook message about the need to dispose of his clothing. Carter and Woods also had injuries to their hands. Judge Pugh said up to 24 Southend United supporters had rushed out of the Railway Tavern when they saw the group of Cambridge United fans making their way to Prittlewell Station. He said: “Twelve of those 24 were defendants in this trial. The attack lasted a short time, about 90 seconds. During that time Simon Dobbin suffered massive brain injuries as a result of being repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped upon.
“He spent a year in hospital. His injuries were not only life-changing for him, but for his family.” Mr Dobbin’s wife Nicole, 46, and daughter Emily, 18, both read out victim impact statements, which the judge called “heartbreaking”.
Referring to the fact police could not identify who struck the blows, resulting in a charge of violent disorder, he said: “Violent disorder carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. “No sentence that I can pass lawfully can in any way properly reflect the harm that has been caused to Mr Dobbin and his family.”

Celtic BATTLEGROUND fears as thousands of Linfield fans set to descend on Glasgow - 17/07/2017
Source: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/
POLICE are on high alert ahead of Celtic’s clash with Linfield on Wednesday after messy scenes tarnished the first leg in Belfast.
At least 1,500 Linfield supporters are expected to travel to see their club play in Glasgow in Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier.
And fans of both clubs are being urged by police to stay "focused on the football” after riot cops and police dogs were deployed to break up disruption at Windsor Park on Friday evening. Tensions boiled over despite cops enforcing a ring of steel and Celtic banning their fans from attending.
But the home crowd would not be denied and targeted Celtic players in the absence of any substantial away support. One Linfield fan invaded the pitch in a bid to go for Hoops striker Leigh Griffiths after he tied a scarf around a goal post. And officers in Glasgow said there will be a "robust" policing plan in place for Wednesday’s second leg, advising people to comply with all safety and security arrangements at Celtic Park.
Speaking ahead of the match, Police Scotland's event commander Superintendent Craig Smith said: "Glasgow once again is in the spotlight as Celtic host Linfield on their return leg. "As would be expected at such an event, there will be a robust policing plan in place with public safety being paramount.
"We've been working with a range of partners including the Police Service of Northern Ireland in our planning in the lead up to the match. "There will be additional officers in and around Glasgow to assist those supporters attending the match.
"Although the majority of supporters attending these matches are well-behaved and enjoy the game, there is often a minority who are intent in drinking too much alcohol and engage in criminal behaviour such as disorder, offensive behaviour and vandalism. "Anyone who is intent in causing disorder or hate crime can expect to be arrested by police. "Let's keep this match focused on the football."

Terrified Aberdeen fans attacked by pole-wielding Bosnian thugs ahead of Europa League clash with NK Siroki Brijeg
TERRIFIED Aberdeen fans were left covered in blood last night after being battered by thugs in Bosnia. A group of around 50 Dons supporters were forced to flee as a bar they were drinking in was invaded by hooligans swinging metal poles.
Several were taken to hospital for treatment to cuts and bruises after the mayhem in Mostar. Around 200 Reds were staying in the historic city ahead of today’s Europa League clash in nearby Siroki Brijeg. But at 11.15pm a gang of around a dozen locals wearing masks and balaclavas targeted Scots who were drinking in the Black Dog boozer. The louts fired red flares into a crowd on a scenic terrace overlooking the Nevetva river. Horrified Dons fans and locals ran for cover as the brutes waded through the pub flailing poles.
Afterwards local cops probing the attack said it was the work of “Ultras” supporters of Zdrinski Mostar, who claim the bar as their territory.

Local media outlet Luzern Zeitung claimed that glass bottles, chairs and garbage cans were all used as missiles. A witness told them: “The two groups have provoked each other verbally. “After that, it started off suddenly. “The approximately 40 Croatian fans have attacked the 30 FCL fans. “The Croatian fans had thrown glass bottles and hit the Lucerne with their fists and iron bars. “It took five to seven minutes, after which the Croatians had moved away again towards the city centre.
